I soak a nylon bag and a zip tie in Starsan. I attach the bag to the siphon hose wand (The end you stick in the fermentation bucket). I've had no issues.
I pour it all in and filter later. I zip-tie a sanitized paint strainer on the fermenter side of the siphon hose and proceed to fill the bottling bucket (or keg). This is mostly to filter out the dry hops that clog my bottling wand.

I'd say you are doing pretty well. I have tested my water, add chemicals as needed, dialed in my water volume and I consistently get around 62% efficiency.
I grabbed a few of these kits when they had free shipping. Now shipping is $7.95. You can certainly build a superior Pale Ale or "Session IPA," (The kit does not hit the IPA range as implied) for $27.94.
I've used food safe trash bag liners for my last 6 beers. No problem. It is like a new fermenter every time. Clean up is so much easier on bottling day as well!

Have you considered an all-Chinook (Arrogant Bastard) beer?

Looks like a damn fine setup to me. I love the garbage can idea. How about installing a drip irrigation system?
Is it okay to have different hops that close together? Will they cross-Pollenate?
Maybe I can grow hops in Florida?
I made a DIY shower cleaner with bleach and vinegar. There was an immediate fog, burning eyes, burning throat and coughing. I guess I am lucky to be alive.
Crank it up until you get to a boil, drop it down to rolling and then monitor it closely as you add hops. Boil overs happen quickly.
I also use Fermcap-S.
