    Bad Kitty Brewery eBIAB

Cool, thanks for the tip. I'd have to change the dip tube, but that is a good solution for keeping the bag from blocking the tube.

    Bad Kitty Brewery eBIAB

Yes, we're still getting stratification even with recirc. It may be because the RTD is mounted at 1" from the bottom, so in close proximity to the element, and the bag/grain keeps the wort from distributing. However, this weekend we are going to try it with the RTD mounted in the valve. If that...

    Bad Kitty Brewery eBIAB

The first photo shows the ventilation system and bar from which we suspend the bag for drainage. I'm pleased with the vortex fan, 6", 540 CFM. It seems to do a good job venting the steam, the tubing runs about 20' to the dryer vent. Still need to find a Y-connector so the dryer and ventilation...

    Bad Kitty Brewery eBIAB

I hope people find this documentation useful. First, I'd like to thank P-J for his designs, Kal for the vast amount of information, shuckit and DaSwede for their parts list, and jeffmeh for his explanations. This is a 240V/30A system, with a 20 gallon pot. We've done 4 batches on it and learn...

    Bambari eBIAB Build

Bambari, thank you for your OP. I am starting a build that is pretty much exactly like your's (20 gal. recirc eBiab). I totally didn't think about how the element height would affect the available water space in a 5 gal batch, so I appreciate you mentioning it. Here are my...

Satisfaction with Auber Illuminated Pushbutton Switches?

I'm curious if people have been happy with the Auber illuminated pushbuttons, in terms of how bright they are? This sentence from the Auber website worries me: "However, it works fine for 120VAC with hardly any noticeable light intensity changes." And shuckit had some dissatisfaction with them...

e-BIAB how big should I go?

I'm ready to buy a kettle for my e-BIAB build and I'm looking for some advice on how big a kettle to get. Right now I'm doing 6-6.5 gal batches with a gas fired 10 gal kettle. I currently get 70%-80% efficiency. I usually do a 2-gallon rinse/sparge, mostly for the added efficiency, but also...

    SSR and contactor confusion

Thank you both very much, I get it now!!

    SSR and contactor confusion

I am starting to think about an eBiab build, based on a drawing by P-J (man, that guy is amazing). The drawing is https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f170/240v-5500w-ebiab-planning-please-help-401409/index2.html. I plan to make a couple of changes, I will have a dedicated 240v GFI circuit, instead of...

    Hydrometer problems

Here is a new theory. What if the problem is the measurement of the OG? After chilling we let the pot sit for 15 minutes, tilted away from the valve at the bottom, so that the trub could settle out and away from the valve a little. We drained the pot from the bottom using the valve, then measure...

    Hydrometer problems

I'm doing BIAB with a 2 gal. rinse at 170. I dump the rinse wort into the main kettle and mix a bit. I don't go crazy with the mixing due to concern about hot-side aeration, but I do mix a bit, but perhaps not enough?

    Hydrometer problems

And yes, I'm adjusting with software.

    Hydrometer problems

Yes. Today my pre-boil reading was done at 77 degrees and OG reading was done at 67.

    Hydrometer problems

I've done several all grain batches. Per Ray Daniels (Designing Great Beers), I've been taking hydrometer readings after I collect my wort, but before I boil, and adjusting with DME to hit my target gravity. I boil for 60 min., cool, and measure again to get my OG. The last couple of batches my...
