I had to sacrifice my workbench area for space and break out my big ass set-up. I moved from densely populated Seattle into a suburb (much bigger house thank goodness). But if starting next year this new custom feature works out it will totally be my pilot system before finalizing a big brew...

Well I understand they need to profit with RFID but still think a more permanent box would be cool as well even if we have to pay for an RFID or some type of access to the database each time. But, hey, we are getting closer to more control so it’s still good news. Btw, I’ve only brewed 3...

    Facebook Groups

Agreed. HBT seems more focused. I’ve been part of local groups but it’s difficult to get conversations going as posts would quickly get buried. There’s no way to branch off into different topics such as on here. But what turned me off was the whole privacy issue a few months back so I had to...

I was excited when I got the email as well. I was about to put my C up for sale. But as @Tuckerl mentioned, we’re getting close! ... but Jan 2019 o_O Also, wish the new packs were reusable instead of having to dispose of them. Wonder if this can be hacked for diy pak containers.

Pitching a beer instead of liquid yeast

Denny Conn always admits he’s a lazy brewer but then rephrases with “pragmatic.” And harvesting yeast is very pragmatic. Your initial thought (OP) is in the right direction but perhaps take it the next step with a starter. Since it seems to be underpitched this time and want to try it again...

Pitching a beer instead of liquid yeast

I bet you it will be fine. With what little beer that’s left over in my secondary carboy I’ll collect that in a flask. Next brew day I’ll let it get to room temperature and pitch that. No starter and it takes off in about 12 hours. I’ve been doing this for my last 6 batches with the same...

Brewed for the first time yesterday!

Awesome set up. And a late welcome ,@BeerTooth, to another Washingtonian.

    Seattle Area homebrew club?

Lol, that will do it. Thinking timing vs traffic would be a pain as well. I just looked at the FB page and there are over 90 members? Surely no all at once. I’m a bit antisocial myself but thought something like this would help ... but I totally get your sentiments.

    Seattle Area homebrew club?

I’ve been trying to find a club as well. Have you or anyone else been to these meetings?

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

So focused on getting my garage brewery together that I’ve completely forgotten HBT has a coffee thread. ... agreed. I have about 3 pounds left unroasted from SM from a fall/winter inventory. Used some this past year as extra gifts for Christmas and proved to be a hit. People couldn’t...

Is double crush a waste of time?

Awesome. I Always remember to check CL. There’s another one on CL in the Snohomish area if anyone is near and interested. That one is going for $70 as of this post.

Is double crush a waste of time?

Thank you. Very helpful. ... if my credit card was thick I’d be buying an entire eBrew system!

Is double crush a waste of time?

While revisiting this thread I just had a hunch to check Craigslist. Sure enough a home brewer was parting with his Grain Crusher for 40 bucks. So I just ran out and picked it up. Goodness sometimes things just work out. Now for a lottery ticket ... A credit card can clear the rollers but not...

Anyone going to the 2018 Homebrew Con in Portland Oregon?

Another Washingtonian! Yay! It would be nice to meet some other homebrewers from this great forum. I’ve been brewing since 2000 and have not really socialized with other brewers so I’m really looking forward to this.

    Hmm, very interesting. Thank you.

Is double crush a waste of time?

Ah, thanks! You’re so right. I’ve only 3 BIAB batches under my belt and I’m still trying to get used to this after years of cooler and keggles. Still on the fence. Sure, it’s great to pair down but old habits or techniques, rather, die hard.

Is double crush a waste of time?

Thanks for this tread all. I read this earlier before my brew day and of course I was in a rush and just crushed once absent mindedly. So if any of you all are curious my gravity was to be 1060ish but with the single crush I got barely 1050. So, I guess my Beer will be a session ale. Anyone...
