Is a closed transfer really necessary?

Shorten your gas dip tube, pressurize the keg, turn it upside down, and blast the sanitizer out the gas post.

    Pahto Hops

I just got an email from YVH stating that these are in stock. https://www.yakimavalleyhops.com/product_p/hopspahto1-2018crop.htm

Is a closed transfer really necessary?

Correct. Barely any exposure would happen if you did that. I used to do that before I started using a screen to filter out hop debris and the beers were always amazing and not oxidized at all. Sure, put a corny post in the lid. Either way is fine. I use CO2 from a cylinder because I have...

Is a closed transfer really necessary?

First of all, that is not a closed transfer since your fermenter was open. During closed transfers, CO2 is supposed to fill the fermenter as the beer drains from it. Closed transfers are all about low O2 pickup, and your method resulted in a ton of O2 pickup since air was allowed to flood the...

Electric Brewing Sanke keg / no cutting top off, or welds possibility??

If the only motivation is cost and there is no benefit to a vertical element... why? I don't get it at all. I also don't understand what you are trying to saying about making a hole in the keg. How are you going to make a large enough hole with a step bit?

    Oxygenating wort

    I'm thinking air.

Using lost wort from blow-off catch vessel

Hell no. Once something leaves the fermenter it shall not return.

    Oxygenating wort

I see what you're trying to say now that you mentioned dialing the rate back, but he specifically asked if he should halve the time at the same flow rate. You may or may not get the same amount of O2 into the wort that way. It's pretty hard to say.

    Oxygenating wort

Why wouldn't you give half the amount of wort half the amount of oxygenation time?

    Inkbird ITC-308 Sucks

You're missing the point of why I posted that. I posted that because someone said that this was a solitary occurrence. Clearly it was not. You can see it as confirmation that the 308 sucks or you can disregard it. Neither is wrong. Buy and use what you want. There is not really a whole lot...

    Unitank capacity

Are you wondering about the CF15? It says right on their site that it has an 18 gallon total capacity. Maybe they just added it.

    Inkbird ITC-308 Sucks

I would spend $100 more to save having to convert C to F. F that noise.

    Cold Crashing / Mylar Balloon

Yes, when it comes to O2, everything is a big deal.

    Inkbird ITC-308 Sucks

There were a few reviews that seemed like operator error, not a lot. The majority of the one star reviews were from people who stated that it worked fine for a few months and then crapped out. Go read the reviews again.

    Cold Crashing / Mylar Balloon

I'm in the process of moving to teflon tubing for cold-side stuff for that very reason.

    Inkbird ITC-308 Sucks

To be fair, this is not a solitary occurrence. 11% of the reviews on amazon give the 308 one star. That's pretty bad in my opinion. Most of those one star reviews are due to failure...

    Am I over-oxygenating my wort?

I use a very similar flow meter. It's awesome to know exactly how much O2 you pump into your wort so you can be repeatable from batch to batch.

    SS Brewtech's Mill

I totally understand the purpose of an emergency stop button. I am fine with them. I originally said the physical size of the e-stop and enclosure was way too big on the morebeer mill and you assumed that I was anti e-stop, which I am not. It was just done poorly on that mill.

    SS Brewtech's Mill

I understand that big buttons are a safety feature, but there is absolutely no reason to have an enclosure that big and stupid looking. They could have even mounted that giant enclosure under the table, with the button more or less flush-mounted with the table top. But jeez, this is a...
