  4. S

    yeast starter=pain

Just a follow up, the OG was 1.060 is currently 1.016, its fairly clear, smells great, and yea the sample was tasty. A few more days and into the bottles. Beer happens, its wonderful.

    whirlfloc

I have an irish red in the final stage of fermenting, gravity went from 1.060 down to 1.016, first reading. Whirlfloc was part of the recipe and I have to admit the beer looks good. With whirlfloc do any of you still cold break? The beer looks good, Killashandra Red from Brewers Apprentice...

    Hydrometer question

I've seen a few threads asking for help on a brew and the reply is, take a reading we can tell a lot from your hydrometer reading. So as a noob what all can you tell from a reading? I get the SG and the TG for ABV and the fact you can tell whether your fermentation is done, anything else...

My wife was quite happy I wasn't getting 2 more beer glasses. I have more beer glasses then any other glasses, combined, as it should be.

What did you learn this week?

I learned that all capable bottles aren't the same. I was saving Dos Equis bottles then a friend pointed out the collar. Its very close to the rim and may not cap as easy. I've moved on to Sam Adams.

Sorry to be that guy.... question about my first brew

Tampa, I recently made that beer, about 12 bottles left. I hit 1.010 FG. Its a drinkable beer. I learned a lot brewing it, enjoy.

    two free Killians Pint Glasses...

I was post #6 and got my NO GLASSES FOR YOU! email It's clear that everyone is excited for St. Patrick's Day! Our "Get Your St. Pat's Pints" glassware offer was a big hit. In the last few days, we saw a lot of unexpected and unusual activity surrounding the promotion and we went through our...

    yeast starter=pain

thanks duboman, thats what I figure, its all learning, a process.
  14. S

    yeast starter=pain

After reading these replies, I'm a bit aggravated with my HBS and the lousy advice, will the large amount of DME I used affect the finished product? A screw up? I think my next batch is going to be a simple wheat beer, I have a lot to learn.
  15. S

    yeast starter=pain

so you won't be using as much DME? in 800 ml? One question runs into two more.
  16. S

    yeast starter=pain

so my LHBS may have been a little short on directions

Overcarbed? Yea I think so, why?

Revvy I bottled on 1/29 its been at 64-66 degrees. In the fridge for 2 days. The first couple I opened were nice, had carbonation that was fine. My OG was 1.045 FG 1.010 I used 3/4 cup priming sugar And yes i am certain the caps are raised. Will be checking revvy's bottle sticky
  18. S

What did you learn this week?

anti foam in the yeast starter and a bonus lesson, priming sugar needs more attention, over carbed sucks
  19. S

Overcarbed? Yea I think so, why?

Racking to the bottling bucket will get more attention next time. I just took a swig of the over carbed from the bottle, holy...talk about a fizzy dance in your mouth. Learning.

Overcarbed? Yea I think so, why?

This is the second of two bottles I opened. I grabbed them because as I checked the bottles I could see the caps were raised, photo. It was apparent they were over carbed and the pressure was popping the top. When I prepped for racking I dumped the priming mix into the bottom of the bottling...
