Fermzilla 27L Tri Conical 3.2 - Any way to make this thing shorter?

I have a couple of all rounders and am considering adding a Tri Conical to the mix, as my local shop has them on deep discount. Problem is, my chest freezer is only 30" clearance, and the Tri Conical is 29.5" with no airlock. I really only need to cold crash in there, wondering if there is any...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Recipe check - Going to use some of that Strata I just picked up. 23 L batch. Took inspiration from @Dgallo recent DIPA recipe, and scaled it down to regular strength.

I never thought this day would happen

I absolutely feel your pain. I haven't brewed since November, which is the longest time I've gone since starting in 2007. Combination of being busy, crappy winter, and then getting influenza followed by pneumonia. I'm starting to feel better and getting the itch to brew, going to do a couple...

    Focus for 2025?

I just did the same thing. I swore I was going to use the mountain of hops in my freezer but despite storing them well the beers I've brewed with the older hops weren't great (from a hop character standpoint). Life's too short to drink mediocre beer. My 2025 goals are: Brew what I want to...

What came in the mail for you today?

10 pounds of hops, should be set for the year. New to me are Strata and Nelson.

Thanks , this is great advice. I always have trouble evaluating hops by smell but this is something I'm going to do more of. Cheers!

Thanks! Do you like equal parts? Or do you mix it up a bit to favour certain hops?

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Ok, just got a big hop order in. I've pretty much stuck with Citra Mosaic Simcoe up until now. Give me a killer hop combo for my next Westie. I ordered Nelson and Strata over and above my usual suspects.

    Experience with Northwest Hop Farms?

Buddy and I ordered 16 pounds. Should be good for the year. Ordered on Friday arrived here in ON today. Took a chance on some older varieties, but they were super cheap. Otherwise stuck to 2023-2024 .

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Haha, sorry, I edited my post. I soft crash, and dry hop for 2 days at 55F. I do like the idea you mentioned about hopping for actual volumes, not the kettle volume.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I'm always amazed that people are able to use those hopping rates and not get an insanely bitter beer. I love bitter beers, but I find when I add any more than 8-10oz between the whirlpool and dry hop I get an insane amount of bitterness. I whirlpool at 175, I only dry hop post...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I loved that cast... seriously the best brewing podcast. Decocting WCIPA, crazy! Not surprising though for a brewery out of Bierstadt. I've also been leaning toward starting to add a little more character malt as @Dgallo mentioned. I do miss the classic WCIPA a bit, things like Green Flash...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I need to re-up my EKG stock, just wondering how the 2023 EKG crop was? And alternatively, has anyone used US Goldings? Just wonder how they compare.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Hey all. I'm about to do a big hop buy for the year. Any hot new hops I should check out for WCIPA? I am grabbing some Strata and Nelson. One point, I don't love too much diesel, a little bit is ok but would prefer something more fruit/citrus forward.

What I did for beer today

Thank you! How do you like Bramling Cross? I'm pretty much an EKG/Challenger guy, but am about to do a hop order.

    Experience with Northwest Hop Farms?

That doesn't seem unreasonable to me, ,shipping in Canada is expensive, they also don't use Canada Post. I just checked and to ship 2 pounds of hops in Ontario from OBK is $27 by Purolator.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I will say, I really like the West Coast IPA is Dead clone, but it's all whirlpool and dry hop. I feel like it's missing some of that middle hop character, so I think I"m going to add in some late boil, i.e. 15-5min. additions to round that out.
