    Who's got my beer name!?

How about "Hoptimus Prime" :rockin: I'm sure most of the Hops play on word names have been used, but it is fun coming up with names for brews.

    Noob from Ft Myers Fl

Same place the beer side and club is hangar 41, but it says Time to make wine on the building.

After 2 years I finally had my first boil over!

It's always something simple. Thank you, mucho:mug:

After 2 years I finally had my first boil over!

Holy crap! I'm only on batch 5 and 3 out of 5 have boiled over. Despite my best efforts to scoop foam, and stir and blow, and anything else I could think of. To much liquid all 3 times but I keep thinking I can stop it somehow:o Oh well, a little extra scrubbing at the end.:tank:

    Newbie wanting ideas

Citra, Cascade, and Amarillo all impart citrus, grapefuity, notes. Look at some threads that discuss hop combinations, there are quite a few.

anyone in the Ft. Myers/Naples area?

Yeah Hangar 41! Just posting to keep the thread current. New brewer here, and love Time to make Wine. Great selection of grains, hops, and yeasts. Looking forward to this month's meeting. :ban:

If you were opening a brewery in your area...

The fist "brewery" here in Fort Myers, is just that, a tap room. The owners still work there 9-5's and are only open on Fridays, and Saturdays. So far the response has far exceeded expectations. They started in an industrial park unit. Another tap room is opening up this month, the owners also...

    Noob from Ft Myers Fl

Welcome! I'm from Fort Myers too, and am also a noob. I have 5 batches done, the 5th still in primary. Do you use Hangar 41 for supplies?

    Low carbonation :(

How long are you letting them carb up? I've used 2 liter Pepsi bottles before and it works fine, but it take at least 3 weeks. Plus you really have to crank the twist tops on, or some of the carbonation leaks.

    Best Chicken Wings

If you want really crispy fried wings, after you dredge them in your flour mix let them sit in the fridge for 30 min. The moisture from the chicken is soaked up by the flour, then when you fry 'em, they are really crispy.:rockin:

Why are lagers much more popular than ales?

That makes perfect sense, and seems to be the answer for why anything is done on a large scale. The Almighty Dollar. I was hoping there was a more brewing related explanation, but I should have known better. Thanks, Yooper!:D

Why are lagers much more popular than ales?

I think this thread derailed. It was a question about why big commercial breweries choose to brew lagers over ales. Even Jim Koch (Sam Adams) who started as a home brewer, chose to produce a lager. Why? Say what you want about Sam Adams, but it is way more flavorful and hoppy than a...

If you were opening a brewery in your area...

Are you in Fort Myers? This is whats going on here. Though I didn't think the one downtown was opening until this fall. There is another tap room opening closer to Fort Myers beach.

    Wisconsin Here I Come

Here, here! I second that. Ale Asylum is a great little brewery. I stopped there on my last trip to Janesville in March.

    do you brew alone?

One more for alone. I am the only one among my friends who home brews But I do enjoy it quite a bit. Could see how having people around could be distracting, I get caught watching tv sometimes

    Advice for a beginner, please?

I might be wrong, I'm a noob too, but 5 weeks in the fermentor and 4 Months in the bottle seem like plenty to me. It will at least be carbed and taste good. I've yet to brew a RIS, so it may need more time to reach it's peak. Not sure I could wait much longer.:D

    First batch in the bucket!

Welcome to the obsession,as everyone says. It's fine that you squeezed your grains, although some would argue against. I do BIAB and always squeezed. A little longer boil is no biggie either. It will up your IBU's some, not much else. Yes, as Tom Petty says, "The waiting is the hardest part"...

BIAB bag drain and sueeze bucket (with a pic)

Could be, I have yet to read any brewing books. I spun off the idea from another brewer.
