    Fitting a digital temp probe

might just be better off pushing it down ito the mash and pushing the lid down over the wire. I know some people have had issues with moisture gettting in the probe of some digital thermometers (wireless and remote read). Baking it usually fixes it. I don't see permanently affixing it being...

can I trust my own opinion? not sure.

You might not have given it enough time forthe yeast to consume all the priming sugar before putting it in the fridge. It will leave it a little swwet while still having the bitterness from the hops. Putting it in the fridge early will cause the yeast to drop out before they consume their...

Keg foams like a bastid when it gets low

Anybody else run into this? When there's about 7 inches or so left it starts foaming so bad there is only about an inch of beer in the glass. Once I figured this out it comes in handy (know when to get another keg ready). But it was driving me nuts for a while when all of a sudden I was getting...

Bleach for Sanitation, good or bad?

Chlorines should never be used with stainless, if all of it isn't removed it will cause pitting. if there is pitting or scratchhes it will cause extremly fast corrosion. http://www.howtobrew.com/appendices/appendixB.html I personally use Idopher.

    Use for a broken keg

Nothing wrong with bleach as long as you keep it away from the stainless. (and dilute it properly)

    Bonnaroo Suggestions Please

Yeah, I got pretty bored half way thru the second song and left before the third was over. I couldn't take it. The only good show I saw over at that stage was Wilco. No take that back.. Ziggy was good too, as well as the guy that played between them, Bob Wier and Rat Dog. Basically all the...

    Bonnaroo Suggestions Please

Anybody else end up bringing home brew kegs? I brought my portable tap/chiller and paintball cylinder rig. Worked f'in pisser. Almost kicked the Belgian Golden the fist day between 6 of us. Some killer shows. Discovered some really great new (to me) bands. Anybody else catch North...

    Jet burner / keggle distance?

I found the only diffrence betweeen the 55K BTU and the 160K BTU burners was the 55K was painted red and the 160K had a high pressure regulator. Huge diffrence on the same stand. No noticeable diffrence in gas usage, maybe a slight improvement since no grilling was done with the low pressure...

    Homebrewers In Utah

I may try to get work out that way, good to know there are a bunch of home brewers out that way. It would be a shame to loose my home brew shop. Tons of good knowlege and brews (people too). I'd be loosing a LOT of good beer too, but the opportunities out there might be worth it.

tart fresh hefes, weeks later fine?

Could be some residual fermentation byproducts that the yeast haven't consumed yet. I thought some were supposed to be acidic, and that's why they added the fruit extracts/syrups.... or was that only when lactic acid was used?

    pour vs syphon

I picked up some cheap plastic wedges from somewhere. I put the fermentor on them (2 keeps it stable, it won't stay with one) before I start sanitizing. You don't want to get every last drop of beer out of the fermentor anyway. You really don't want to transfer the floculated yeast and trub...

    submersible water pump.

Length of tubing, tubing size, and elbows/bends all afffect flow rates. http://www.pumpworld.com/headcalc.htm This will be better. Has various pumps to choose from so you don't have to look up charts or contact manufacturers. The head losses that we would see will greatly reduce pump life, but...

    Major Buzzkill

Don't forget that not to long back Bud and the like were the only things readily available. So they grew up with their fathers and uncles drinking Bud. When it came time for them to get beer (leagaly or otherwise), they went for Bud. People are afraid of change and things that are new or...

    portable draft beer

Easy to do. can you cut the pressure down below 10psi? You can get a ball lock fitting that is threaded. A 45* galvinized elbow (1/4" I believe). Drill and tap it for the threaded fiting (I can't remember the thread size and pitch at the moment) You may be able to get a nipple and go straight...

    Homemade Counterflow chiller--Sanitation Question

I ran hot vinigar thru it a few times to clean the inside of the tubing. I run hot water from the tap (a fitting screwed on to the faucet with a hose) after to clean it. Then I tilt and move the chiller around to drain all the water out. I'll run sanitizer thru it and cap it to store it. I'll...
