What's the scare with welding kegs?

As long as you clean up the welds, assuming they aren't extremely porous, you should be all right. You can repasivate them to prevent rusting using BKF or some type of stainless cleaner/protector. With TIG the heated area is much smaller. See here...

How do you guys move your wort to your fermenters.

The bottom tier is on a sleeve which makes it liftable with a boat winch: You stole my idea! except mine has all three moveable so everything can be done from ground level. if the spigot is installed thru a threaded bung that is tapped all the way thru to the interior of the kettle you can...

    Brewmometer Upside Down??

I'd watch out threading stainless ito stainless with out some type of lubricant on the threads (teflon tape or something else). Any small burrs or over tightening may cause galling, basically spot welding that thing in there.

Portable stand ideas for continuous sparging?

Build a 3 tier with trailer tires on the base and a trailer hitch at the top.

    Minibrew 15 Gallon Conical

Yeah, 10 gallons of wort is a pain to move in my fermenter (14 gal meatpacking container- big bucket with locking ring for the lid). Dragging that thing up and down the stairs isn't easy, and it has steel handles and weighs about twice as much as a 7 gallon bucket.

    10gal Fermenter- Split 2ndary

I've been splitting into two 5 gallon carboys too. One ends up sitting in kegs/bottles for at least a year before getting served, so I really couldn't tell you the difference. You could take a small sample when you start drawing off and a second at the end. A taste and hydrometer reading will...

    12 Gallon batch in bucket/Demi

I missed this the first time around. This is what i've been using for a while now. Works awesome. I've had beer for a few weeks with no ill issues. I've got a bottling bucket spigot in the center of the lid that I use as a blow off style tube, not that it needs it with that much head space...

    Homegrown Hops?

Haven't started yet, but don't expect a huge harvest the first year. Some do get one, but it isn't the norm. Usually takes 2 to 3 years to start getting a really good harvest.

    Which manifold design

So trying to figure out which manifold design will give me the best flow charectoristics. Even flow in all sectiond to minimize channeling. The cross tubes (the ones not in the first pic) will not be slotted. Even spacing between sections, half distance to walls. Leaning...

    Buying Grains from LHBS

I'd say you're going to the same place as me. Steve is a great guy and runs a phenominal shop.

    Buying Grains from LHBS

My LHBS measures out and mills what ever you want. Flat rate. If there is only a few oz of specialty malt, he'll let it slide.

    A question about conversion

A singe rest around 149 worked nicely for my Kolsh. Just two row and wheat.

    Ideas for reducing costs

Try U-Haul for your propane. They charge by the gallon, not a flat fee. I just payed $16 for an empty cylinder vs. $27 at Lowes. Also try local hardware stores for supplies. The mega stores are always more expensive for tubing, fittings and small pieces. And the people in the store can actually...

    How long does it last?

Should be less than $200 if you rent the bottle. It's a one time fee and most places work on an exchange anyway. It would suck to spend $100+ on a shiny new bottle to get a nice rust colored bottle back. Regulator ~$45 Keg ~$25 Ball lock/pin lock fittings ~$7/$8 each one for beer out one gas...

    CFC and Beer Line Cleaner?

Cleaning immediately after use is key, as well as running all the water out. Things don't grow so well without moisture.

    CFC and Beer Line Cleaner?

With my CFC I'll run hot vinegar thru it if I haven't used it in a while. I use a funnel. Then flush it with hot water. I tilt it on an axis to run all the water out. Run sanitizer thru it (Idopher) A couple times or cap it once I have a solid stream with the funnel still full. Drain it with 15...

    Help with Keggle

Well be ready for the storm. If you haven't seen any of the other threads about stolen kegs such as what you just purchased, do a search. What you have there is a firken. it's a cask used to age a beer then serve using gravity. No carbonation. as in a real ale.
