    Non food grade bucket use

I agree with this. its more long term or high temp direct food contact that would concern me personally.

    PBW and slimy glass

A good rinse should always be done with water after using pbw. Using star san or saniclean on surfaces coated with pbw will just neutralize the acidic effect of the sanitizer and make it much less effective at actually sanitizing the surface. somewhere in the recommended use for either pbw or...

Alternative to PBW for cleaning SS fermenters

You do not need to use that much pbw mix... You can use even a half a gallon and manually scrub with that. I typically clean 100+gallon tanks and kettles with 10 gallons of pbw mix and a sprayball and 3/4hp sanitary pump at the brewpub. keep in mind many dont know what they are missing as they...

    Non food grade bucket use

This is a good point but the reality is the company that makes the bucket doesnt spec a food grade dye from the manufacturer that makes the dye or them. and chances are not much attention is given to whats in that dye since they arent going to pay for the food grade certification. Therefore...

    Non food grade bucket use

Where does it state that? I ask because the colored ones sold for other use than food storage typically are not food grade due to the dyes they use in the plastic. for use in storing dry goods you would be fine. I learned this a while back with locline some used for sparge arms. all colors but...

Malt muncher 3 roller loves to rust

The bar keepers friend will help passivate the surface develop a protective layer. I have not had any of my cold rolled or carbon steel rollers rust like that so my thoughts are at one point it got splashed with moisture while sitting which started the rusting process and no theres enough...

First attempted at step mash - Scorch and fail!

With the amount of surface area vs wattage, from the pictures Id say they are definitely not. the more actual heating element vs heat wattage means you get a lower "watt density" on the heating surface and gentler heating action... its kind of like the different between using a cheap pot with a...

    "Fotek" SSRs on eBay

I do understand that point of view. but it should not be a reduction in reliability if in fact the correct quality component is used with the correct installation and heat sink. $16.50 is more than 50% more cost for a single component of a build. In my case I believe I used 25a crydom ssrs...

    "Fotek" SSRs on eBay

I have to disagree on needing a 40 amp rated ssr for a 20a load... I do not use 30a rated wiring and wall outlets for my 15 amp circuits for the same reasons... someone else designed and rated these thing for a reason. I use the correctly rated wires for the same reasons as well as cost savings...

First attempted at step mash - Scorch and fail!

what is the wattage of that element? is it a ULWD element? It doesnt look like it. your right in guessing you need good flow around the element.

    Pump recommendation for glycol chiller

I suppose not all hoses are made equal... the blue discharge hose I have is like 6 years old now and still works fine.. thicker hose will work just less surface area transfer and less effective transfer with thicker hose wall. I have a cool zone jacket too which has worked fine for me but YMMV...

    Plug-In Cooler=Glycol Chiller?

I agree... That said the grainfather conical chiller is actually a small repurposed aquarium chiller. You would be surprised on what you can get away with.. We lager 4 (four) 110gallon 3bbl plastic conical fermenters at one with a single 1/3hp micromatic chiller at the brewpub and we regularly...

    Glycol chiller or fridge ?

if we are talking one conical, the fridge is far more efficient... multiple conicals? then the chiller makes more sense. but then it really depends on why you went conical in the first place... If its for shiny bling factor then yeah whats practical and works best is out the window as you would...

How to heat a jacketed conical

Your correct the jackets on the better conicals are insulated.. i dont belive the cone area is insulated at all on the BW conical so you might be able to put a heat pad there which would be better anyway. We re not yet using our insulated jacketed 3 bbl conicals because covid has put a huge...

How to heat a jacketed conical

I dont have a link. currently im still using a silicone heat strip wrapped around my conicals for heating which works so well I havent changed anything. at the brewpub I use the heat cords designed for melting ice in gutters

    3-Roller Mills at MoreBeer

Unless the mailt muncher 3 roller has changed again it does not have gears. My cheap 3 roller kegco mill from the beverage factory.com also does not have gears. It has been going strong as the sole mill at my Brewpub for what will be 3 years in December brewing 3 barrels of beer every week and...

    Breaker tripping

Yeah im super confused... I see no 240v breakers shown and what I do see is red wires connected to black wires with electrical tape and red wires that look like they are taped to more red wires... that does not make for a solid good safe conduction connection at all. keep in mind with every...

    Breaker tripping

I have never had this problem myself..both my panels have different 120v items running off one leg or the other and ive never had the gfcis trip from this although Ive read its possible. I know some items such as old fridged and appliances can cause gfci breakers to trip but My understanding...

    Breaker tripping

so are you running the 240v 4500w element at 120v (the red is 120v and black is 120v with the white being the neutral) Or are you are running it wired to the red and black at 240v while also trying to have other 120v devices drawing additional amperage off the black leg at the same time? If you...

208wye system but i want to run 5500w elements

I was going to suggest the same... something like, 208v 3-phase 9kw Element. there were also options on alibaba when I last looking. I bought my elements from Yuling in china and I believe they could make most configurations if asked... would be worth trying since I paid $31 a piece with...
