    Diving in to Homebrewing!

Welcome from another rookie. I thought my Irish Stout would be ready for Christmas, but now I'm worried it may be gone by then :D

All of my beers are bad.

I have two successful batches under my belt. I use an 8 gallon boil kettle with propane burner and ferment in a 5 gallon carboy. Both brews were extract kits and I have one more extract kit to brew before attempting all grain. Using extract kits gave me experience with boiling wort, fermenting...

    Sanitized marbles ?

I guess I was a bit naive to think that marbles to reduce the vapor space was a unique idea. Here's my mead after transferring to the secondary (8 weeks in primary).

Who's drinking what for Turkey day?

We did a Thanksgiving brunch this year. The jar on the right is Bloody Mary mix from this year's salsa canning. While the salsa recipe is tasty, it produces too much liquid, so I've learned to skim a pint of liquid from each batch which is also canned to enjoy with vodka with holiday brunch.

    Poor carbonation

Just following up on my original post - after 3 - 4 weeks total bottle conditioning, my beer is properly and consistently carbonated, tasty, and refreshing!

    Poor carbonation

I'm bottle conditioning my first home brew and tried one a couple nights ago after 11 days of bottle conditioning. I was satisfied with the taste but disappointed with the carbonation. Hoping a couple more weeks will provide more carbonation.

    First Mead Tomorrow

Thanks! When testing SG for 1/3 sugar break, should I discard that must? I've seen videos where people pour the must from the hydrometer cylinder back in the fermenter or even drop the hydrometer in the fermenter and then fish it out with their fingers. Seems like a risk of contamination.

    First Mead Tomorrow

I have my first beer homebrew in bottle conditioning for a week and I pledged I wouldn't start anything else until I tasted that, but.... My daughter is making an unexpected visit this weekend and she doesn't have anything planned tomorrow afternoon, so we have a dad/daughter date to make mead...

    Hello from South Jersey

I'm four days into my primary fermentation of my first batch. Still bubbling away with more than a bubble every second, but noticeably slower than the first few days - I quickly replaced the air lock with a blowoff tube. My boil day went pretty well. I used an extract recipe and controlled the...

    Hello from South Jersey

I was gifted some home brewing supplies from someone getting out of the hobby. I'm in the process of completing my supply kit (he brewed from conventional kitchen stock pot on stove top - I upgraded to 8 gallon boil kettle with propane burner). I've seen some comments about having trouble...
