    Filtering Hops Before Fermentation

    As long you catch a majority it doesn't make a difference. The rest will settle on the bottom during the fermentation. There is no need to filter. What do you use for bottling? If you use a siphon make sure the cap is on so you don't catch the sediment.

    Thanks, that what I didn't know. Next time I will try 15min. and go with 1/2 gal. less water.

    I use Pilsener Malt for my Koelsch (7.5lb Pilsener Malt, 1lb Weat Malt) but I never had DMS problems although I alwasy boil for 60min. in a turkey fryer with with no cover.

    yes I guess the boil off amount is calculated correctly but the whole grain recipe could use less grain for a 60min boil with the same gravity

    oh, of course now I know what a hot break is..So you mean there is no reason to cook after the hot break for 30 minutes before adding the first hops? That's what I was thinking too.
