    BLING BLING Electric HERMS Conversion

yes. planning to replace with the liquid tight RTD. wish I would have got the RTD to begin with... wish I had advice for the k type other than just throw it out...

    Gordon Strong's New Book

Good lord, wasn't this a thread about reviewing the book? All that needed to be said was that this book focuses on all grain brewing, but everything not pertaining to the mash is still relevant to an extract brewer. And if you think that not being a fan of extract brewing invalidates this...

    Stone XI Anniversary Clone

Drinking a freshly kegged and carbed glass of my recipe from a few post ago (except used simcoe at 60min not FWH). VERY happy, more to my taste than the original recipe. Centennial works great, and it's a bit more drinkable at 7%, though admittedly it's kinda a different beer now.

    Gordon Strong's New Book

I seem to be in the boat with most here. Got Strong's book on presale, read a bit, like it so far, but haven't read enough to really review it. I also have all the other books (except CJOHB) the OP mentions, so I'll let ya know in a bit.

Kegcoboy co2 4-way manifold. The circled valves allow flow in both directions and are thus broken check valves.

    Houston Beer Stops

Thanks for all the recommendations. Didn't make it to St Arnolds. We found out to late they are only open 3-4 with one tour at 3:30... Specs was pretty nice though, but not much a couldn't get back in Richmond.

    Houston Beer Stops

So, on a couples days notice I'm going to Houston for the NCAA final four. I'm going to have some time to kill, what good beer and good beer places are in Houston? Breweries/brewpubs? I'm from the east coast, what beer might I be able to get in Houston I can't in Virginia?

    Stone XI Anniversary Clone

Definitely let us know how it turns out. Partially inspired by your sub, and partially by some other IPAs I've done, I've decided to try a smaller version of this (~7%), with all simcoe/centennial (luckily my LHBS has simcoe, and i ordered a lb from farmhousebrewing, because damned if I'm...

    Yield and Boil Off Thoughts

Also, if you are starting with 7.5 and going down to 5.5 in one hour that's a ~25% boil off rate which is a bit high. If you're like me you are doing it for better efficiency, and my beer comes out great IMHO, but I am looking at my process to try and get the efficiency else where and lower my...

    Yield and Boil Off Thoughts

Oh, i know exactly the delima. I was in the exact same situation boiling on the stove with heat stick and a 7.5 gal pot filled to the brim. I would have to turn it down real low until some boiled off, it was pretty much 90 minute boils everytime. It worked cause I was in an apartment and had...

    Yield and Boil Off Thoughts

That was my hope when I went from a 7.5 gal BK to a 15.5 gal keggle. But turns out that 7 gallons will easily boil over a 15.5gal keggle. Found out the hard way... (I'm using a 5500W electric heating element, the boil over problem is mostly when it first starts to boil and i haven't turned...

    BLING BLING Electric HERMS Conversion

Electricity will kill you, understand it before you use it. Correct, GFI and ground are two separate things. A GFI can not run on a 3-prong cord (without ground) was my only point - making it even more unsafe. simply having a ground wire does NOT IN ANY WAY replace a GFI, a ground alone is...

    BLING BLING Electric HERMS Conversion

not to dig up an old thread but i have my 240V electric herms up and running, thanks in large part to this thread. So a big thank you is in order Pol! (whether you're gone or not) A couple suggestions to anyone attempting this: go with the RTD sensor, the k-type is a POS and having that...

    Stone XI Anniversary Clone

Grain bills this big always get lower efficiency. Check preboil gravity and adjust with DME or dextrose to get where you want. The dextrose (1lb I think) worked well for me to get the FG down and make this giant beer more drinkable.

Centennial will give you a more floral taste/aroma. Should be great.

    Nitrogen stout tap line length?

Wow, yeah... maybe someone had one to many before writing that pdf? They are not the only place I've heard blanketly recommend 5' (or 6'), and once i hear bad advice i throw out the rest of what they say too. (Not to say recommending 5' is bad, it will usually work or close enough, but that...

    Nitrogen stout tap line length?

I can add some info on how I got mine going actually: I have a CO2 system and a beer gas (75/25) system in the same keezer. To start i disconnect all my other kegs from CO2, hooked up the CO2 only to the stout keg at ~40psi (probably too high, just watch it closely), then out of same keg to...
