    Electric Kettle Rust

Does the anode work when not under water? For example, after I drain the kettle if the element base is still wet would the anode keep it from rusting? Also. Would the anode work if just thrown into the kettle? Trying to understand how it works, thanks

    Electric Kettle Rust

Do you have any recommendations as to what rust converter to use? Thanks again

    Electric Kettle Rust

I am using an Electric Boil Keggle made from a 1 in stainless nut and a 5500W ULD heating element. I'm getting rust on the base of the heating element, and some is transferring over to the stainless steel. Just wanted to get peoples thoughts. Is this a problem? Is there a way to avoid...

    Multiple Pumps working together

That's exactly what I'm trying to do. I want to drop the entire boil down in temp very quickly so that I can retain the aroma compounds like Jamil's whirlpool chiller. Problem is I have a CFC and just wanted to make it work. I also want the ability to do light lagers, and it's nice to be...

    Multiple Pumps working together

So I recently tried to whirlpool through my counter flow chiller on a 10 gallon batch. While the results weren't bad, I was hoping for better. I believe that the slow performance was due to the the March 809 pump not being strong enough to push my wort through my CFC fast enough. A bunch of...

    Little giant pump 3-MD-HC

Evandy, you mention that you are unable to whirlpool with the 809? Are you whirlpooling through a counterflow or an immerison chiller? Does this meant that you are able to whirlpool with the 3-MD-HC? When doing really light beers I want to whirlpool in the kettle so that I can leave the...

    Separate HERMS HEX Build

I think I am going to get rid of the small chamber. I may try turning off the pump, jacking up the temp, and then start recirculating. Like mentioned before, I don't want to get into the denaturing discussion either. Just trying to identify the pros and cons of big HEX vs small HEX.

    Question for HERMS users

Will Rust in any way hurt your beer? So I'm hearing that only the base of the element is what rusts? Thanks for the help Pol

    Separate HERMS HEX Build

I am a newbe, but have read a lot about the idea of step mashing with a HERMS. It appears that you really can't get much more than 1 degree a minute raise, so if you are stepping up from 130 to 152, potentially a bunch of the conversion has happened before you ever get there. I was getting...

    Question for HERMS users

Are you saying that the rust is unavoidable? I've got a 5500W Ultra low heating element in my kettle and that doesn't seem to rust. My element in my little head exchanger does rust. I thought that this was because I did something wrong? How do you prevent yours from rusting?

    Separate HERMS HEX Build

This is an issue that I have thought about a lot. Why are you wanting to use a small heat exchanger as opposed to the coil in you HLT? I currently am using a small exchanger and went that way in the hopes of ramping temps quickly. I've found that even a small exchanger doesn't really allow...

    The Weber Fermentation Chamber

I'm in the middle of doing almost the exact same thing. I have my main chamber build and working. Do you have any issues with not having a return vent for the air you are pushing into the small chamber?

    Mounting Electronics

I have been struggling with the best way to mount an SSR to a box like everyone is listing? Do you put the heat sink in the inside or outside of the box? If it's on the outside, it needs to be in direct contact with the SSR, so how do you mount those together? Thanks

    240V Heating Element - 1 or 2 SSRs

So someone on this thread mentioned that they were using 25A SSRs for a 5500W heating element? This is also a question I had? I have enough 25A SSRs, and 5500W is actually less than 25A but not in the 70% range? If I am using a heat sync, what is the down side to doing this? Does it just...

Will stainless hose braid filter out trub / hops

I currently whirlpool my wort, and just started recycling my wort from the counter flow back into the kettle to get more cold break out? I have an extra braid that I never used and was tempted to try to use it to filter out the hot/cold break and pellet hop material from getting into my...

    240V Heating Element - 1 or 2 SSRs

So what is the advantage of using 2 SSRs?

    240V Heating Element - 1 or 2 SSRs

When using a 240 V Heating Element, should you use 1 or 2 SSRs? If you only use 1, will the element still be hot?

    HLT Stirring

Doesn't it just produce 1 stream of bubbles? Where do you put the output of the air pump? I just would worry that the bubbles don't push the water around enough to always have warm water around the HERMS coil? Not sure which is worse, lack of water movement or loss of heat through the pump.

    HLT Stirring

I am about to put together my HLT and was planning on putting in a whirlpool like inlet to stir it to. I am going to use this as my HERMS heat exchanger too, and heat loss would be a bad thing for that? What would everyone recommend to stir it then? I do have an old Ice Cream Maker motor...
