    Outdoor propane burner & pot

Haha, yeah my swmbo can't stand the smell, amazingly the mess doesn't bother her as long as I clean up after myself... relax, have a home brew.

    Outdoor propane burner & pot

what kind of a burner are you using? My plan is to continue heating water for mash/sparge inside on my stove, so that will help a little with propane conservation. relax, have a home brew.

    Outdoor propane burner & pot

OK, I'm back with more questions.... After a bunch of research i found myself leaning towards getting the bayou classic SQ14 which seems to be pretty popular, or the bayou classic kab4 which seems like it might be overkill for me, i dont see myself ever going to 10+ gallon batches. what im...

    Guinness Lager

I think its pretty good, heavy on the roasted malt to give it that Guinness character, on a commercial level I'd probably liken it to a roastier, dryer Michelob Amberbock. My wife hates Guinness but really liked the Black Lager.... at the price is selling I'd rather just get a larger quantity...

    Outdoor propane burner & pot

Hi all, Ive got a couple BIAB AG batches under my belt that Ive done inside on my stove with a smallish pot, its been a huge PITA, due to my pot size I've had to split the boil into two which is obviously less than ideal. As such, I've been shopping around for a propane kit that comes with...

To put hops in a bag or not, that is the question

+1 on 5gal paint strainer bag. I brew on a stovetop & just use a binder clip on the rim of the pot to keep the top of the bag above the boil, just take the binder clip off & throw the hops in the bag. relax, have a home brew.

    Partial Mash Mystery

ha, good point on stirring in the carboy, i guess i forget that im probably in the minority using a plastic bucket for fermentation.... Until you get to the point where you're doing full boils your best bet for determining OG might be to take a sample of your mini mash. Get a gravity reading...

    Partial Mash Mystery

I had really low gravity readings on a couple of partial mashes & posted about it on here. the conclusion i drew, with some helpful input from board members, was that i was not mixing the top off water well enough with the wort. are you just shaking your fermentor or mixing with a paddle? I...

Best cheap commercial beer you've ever had?

No the white can is just regular genny lager. The bock beer is their take on a traditional bock & as such they only release it in limited quantities in the spring time. I want to say it comes around sometime close to the end of february. Comes in a green & yellow retro looking can with a...

Best cheap commercial beer you've ever had?

Yeah cream ale is notorious for... well let's just say, cleaning you out the next day. Doesn't bother me though. Rolling rock is another good one, I don't remember it being all that cheap when I used to drink it a bunch but I rcently picked up a 30 pack for 17.99.

Best cheap commercial beer you've ever had?

Ditto, just about any genny product for me. Usually stick to regular genny & cream ale. Like to stock up on bock when its out in the spring, prices went up to to a whopping 7.99 for a twelve pack this year...bastards. Pbr & ov are a close second, third. Leaving out the labatts, michelob amber...

wife constantly nags about two things 1. how much money we spend on beer/beer ingredients (i prolly average (1) 30 pack, (1) 5 gallon batch & (1) $10ish six pack per month. 2. how many beers im drinking when its just the two of us at home because of those two thing i usually try to take 2-3...

Second Partial Mash - aerating & OG question

Update: I recently re-brewed the beer previously mentioned in this thread with very little change in procedure or ingredients. I did sparge @ a higher temp & played with amounts of specialty grains and extract types. This time I did cool and test the wort after mashing, i dont have the...

Second Partial Mash - aerating & OG question

wasnt aware that the temp correction was that inaccurate, no prob chilling the wort down in such a small quantity next time. I guess i just figred if the top off water was going to add the necessary oxygen for the yeast why bother mixing and inroducing potential infoection from the mixing...
