    Another Efficiency Issue...

Thanks again for all the replies. Sent water to Ward on Thursday to get analyzed. Will report back when I get the results.

    Another Efficiency Issue...

yeah sorry, meant 0.026. Don't have a picture of the crush. Profile says Ohio, but actually moved to Michigan, just am still in denial. Yeah I mean I always hear the crush is the first place to look, but mine didn't look too bad. I guess I can try for a better crush next time as well as look...

    Another Efficiency Issue...

I certainly understand the opinion of the grain mill. I'm trying to avoid it as it just seems like a hassle to have around. I'd rather just use the brew store as long as I can get it consistent I don't mind have to pay an extra buck for the extra grain, but the crush I'm getting doesn't seem...

    Another Efficiency Issue...

I assume the best way to figure out if it a pH issue is to measure the water I'm using correct? Is this just done with a pH meter? I've seen people talk about getting their water tested is there a best test kit for brewing?

    Another Efficiency Issue...

Hi all, I've done about 5 or so brews on my new BIAB system and seem to be consistently getting low numbers and am trying to trace down the cause. I know the first response is always on the crush. I am getting it from the LHBS and in the order I put comment to crush at 1.026 which they promise...

Recirculating with BIAB bag (fabric filter)

I have one such bag and it works fine.

    BIAB calculator

I really like http://www.biabcalculator.com/. It's very clean and simple, the interface is straight forward. Only thing I wish it had was preboil gravity. This should be straight forward function involving target gravity and boil off right?

    INKBIRD IPB-16 Temp Probe

thanks for the info. I think I'm going to go with the TC version of that one. Bobby mentioned that the large size one is a little too big for the probe and recommended putting cotton balls in the well to take up the extra space. Have you done anything like that, or it works fine without it?

    INKBIRD IPB-16 Temp Probe

Do you have information on which thermowell you're using? What size is the OD, length, etc? Have you found any issues with your response times or accuracy?

    INKBIRD IPB-16 Temp Probe

Folks that have the Inkbird IPB-16 how are you using the temp probe? I was looking into picking one up from Bobby at BrewHardware but wasn't sure the best way to use the probe. I have a pot with a 1.5 TC fitting in it for the temp probe, but wasn't sure if people recommended using a thermowell...

    Trying to brew better

This is the second time recently I've seen people mention the homer buckets. I thought they were not food safe and shouldn't be used for homebrewing? Any concerns?

    Point

Also can consider getting an induction burner. Lots of the benefits of going full electric system without having to build/buy the panel.

    New Custom Spike Kettle

That was my thought. I think I've got my plan. I think three 1.5" TC across the bottom for element (9 o'clock) outport (6 o'clock) and temp/whatever else (4 ish o'clock) and one at 4 ish oclock near the top. Thanks everyone for the input.

    New Custom Spike Kettle

is there general requirements of where that needs to be for the condenser? I was planning 1.5" TC maybe 2 inches from the top on one of the sides? Also for heating element, the 1.5" vs 2", the only difference is the size of the connector correct? and this just makes it easier to take in and...

Spike 240v eBIAB build on an oldschool AV cart

Makes sense. Thanks for all your information! I think I've got my plan now.

Spike 240v eBIAB build on an oldschool AV cart

That's a great idea. I haven't found a dip tube option that I've liked yet. I think this is the solution. You mention having to bend the element to get closer to the bottom. Would you get the TC put lower if you could redo it?

Spike 240v eBIAB build on an oldschool AV cart

Hey @staticfritz, thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, is your ball valve and diptube both screwed into the same TC to NPT converter? or how are you making that connection? I'm assuming the connector is place with the TC towards the brew kettle right? so (BallValve) -| (dipTube). Last...

Spike 240v eBIAB build on an oldschool AV cart

@staticfritz did you get the dip tube from spike as well? It looks like it's a TC connection, but I don't see anything like that on their site.
