Does anyone else hate their auto siphon?

Reviving an old thread just to say f the fermtech autosiphon. Getting ready to transfer from secondary to bottling bucket. Reached for brand new AS that I had just carefully sanitized and see that it has a bunch of cracks along the bend and then I notice that the bottom of the thicker piece is...

    PawPaw recipes

Thanks KVP. Both of those recipes sound tasty. I always thought it might go well in a wheat, belgian or amber. Especially b/c of the hint of banana that you can get in a wheat or belgian and how well pawpaw can be used in place of banana. Man, shouldn't have asked so early, I could really go...

    PawPaw recipes

I am quite familiar with their disappointingly short shelf life:(. I appreciate anything you might have. No hurry, we have until September here in PA. I just wanted to maybe start toying with ideas. Thx.

    PawPaw recipes

I did a search but didn't come up with anything except one member mentioning making pawpaw jam and another having a pawpaw ale in the lineup. My father-in-law has a small orchard (700 trees) and I was hoping someone might be able to share some recipes either for food, beer, wine or anything...

My Fortune for One 5/8" Stainless Steel Fender Washer!

Just built my tun this past weekend and was unable to find a SS washer. I ended up buying a thick (1/16"?? thinnest I couldn't bend with my fingers) rigid nylon washer at Sears . It worked fine for my first AG. Hope this helps anyone in the future.

Platino 10 gal Water Cooler for a tun?

Has anyone bought or used the Plantino 10 gal water cooler from agrisupply? www.agrisupply.com/72917/p/72917/cn/1700005/ Seems pretty cheap and didn't know if it would be one of those "you get what you pay for" deals. Thanks.

    Question about Transferring

I've got that exact setup and it worked like a charm on my first and only brew. Any small amount of sediment that ended up in the bottling bucket settled out and I didn't even wait to start bottling. Didn't leave any more brwe behind than I would have with a siphon. As for sanitizing the...

all grain on electric stovetop, is it possible?

I had a hard time boiling 4 gal of wort until I went to the hardware store and bought some vent duct insulation. It was a dense foam with foil on one side and sticky on the other. I double it over sticky sides together and wrapped my 8 gal bk with it. Had no problem getting 6.5 gal. to a...

    Second brew, first Partial

Thanks Frazier. Thats exactly it. LHBS gave the first tablet free so I figured why not. Maybe he sold more questionable merchandise at some point?:cross: I guess jumping in with both feet is my nature. The third fishing fly I ever tied was a deer hair popper. Good thing there are...

    Second brew, first Partial

Hey guys, First off, great resource here. Been learning a ton. Anyways, wife and I just finished cooking batch number two. I was feeling ambitious and put together an IPA recipe myself with the help of brewtarget-1.2. Boil Vol - 6.5 gal Primary Vol. - 5.25 gal 1 lb Crystal 40 2 lb...

    Craigslist score!

Jealous that your SWMBO let you pick up one with the fake wood. I've seen a bunch at good prices but the wife is too darn picky and demands stainless.

Using Bottling Bucket to Ferment and Fermenting Bucket to Bottle?

My kit from Williamsbrewing came with a siphonless fermenting bucket. The spigot is approx 2 in off the bottom with a downturned elbow on the inside. It was only my first brew but I think that it worked very well to pull the beer off of the yeast layer with minimum debris transfer to the...

    Best starter equipment package?

I purchased a kit from Williams Brewing that came with the usual stuff plus 8 gal bk, wort chiller, and recipe kit for just over $200. Pretty pleased with it so far. Will be bottling first batch (eng. IPA) in two days. They seemed to have the best deal if you need a bk and shipping was very...
