    these prices seem too low

Well, I suppose you could get a kegerator and tower, but that's not strictly required. I have my kegs in a chest freezer with picnic taps. A used chest freezer is cheap, and a new one is well under $200 (that will hold 4 kegs or more). I hear commercial temp controllers are ~$80, but I built...

    these prices seem too low

Indeed, the keg is awesome. I've already bought an extra ball-lock keg and all the hose and disconnects I need for a two-keg system from my LHBS, too. Can't comment on shipping from keg connection since the keg system I have was a gift, but everything seems to be in good shape. I did replace...

    Vienna Lager Viva Vienna Lager!

Just pulled the first glass from my first keg (ever). This is the beer I put in the keg. Tastes great, but hasn't clarified yet. I have only let it cold condition for about a week so far. I couldn't resist putting the picnic tap on the keg to see how the beer is progressing. It is quite...

CO2 refills in North Dallas area

I dropped off my tank at CCFE tonight. I was quoted $12 for a refill. They just pick up the tanks in McKinney and haul them to Dennison for refill. Thus, the refill is not instant and will require parting with the tank for a few days. Since this is a new (empty) tank and I have no kegs...

CO2 refills in North Dallas area

My tank is a new 5lb aluminum tank from kegconnection. I don't see a stamp (in ink) anywhere that looks like a hydro test date. I assume with no stamp, I'll need to pay for a hydro test. Should I expect a new tank to have a hydro stamp? Do new tanks typically need a hydro test on first fill...

CO2 refills in North Dallas area

I'm confused. This looks like ferguson. Why do they not feel they can check filll level of a 5lb refill, but they are a good choice for exchanges? What did i misunderstand?

CO2 refills in North Dallas area

Thanks, maybe i'll just do tank exchange. Where do you do exchanges up here? Koetter and park it mark it seem like long drives.

T-Bone, did you check with Ferguson on smaller tank refill prices? I've got an empty 5lb tank here (in McKinney) that I am looking to fill. Seems a shame to trade my shiny new CO2 tank in.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing 5 gallon batch of https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f59/viva-vienna-lager-76480/ today. Going to use S-05, as the originally poster did, but ferment in my new chest freezer. This will be the first batch fermented in my freezer. Hoping I get a kegging system before this is ready to drink...

New all grain brewer mash question.

Brew day went well. I hit all of my target temps and gravity with the volumes and water temps from brewtarget. I ended up with a 7.5 minute rest at 139 as the intermediate step between 122 and 154, but I really don't know that I accomplished anything useful by doing this. I might have to try...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing Jamil and Palmer's "Wittebrew" from Brewing classic styles on Sunday. Belgian Wit at 1.050 using Wyeast WYXL3655 (Belgian Schelde) washed and stored in the fridge from a pale ale I brewed in December. The yeast starter is happily bubbling on the counter.

New all grain brewer mash question.

Thanks, that's actually the thickness i plugged into brewtarget mash calculator. Dough-in was calculated to just over 3 gallons, for a 12 lb grain bill, so it looks like i'll be right in that range.

New all grain brewer mash question.

I'm trying Jamil and Palmer's wittebrew for my second all grain batch. The mash schedule in the book has dough-in at 122f, with direction to gradually raise mash to 154 after a 15 min protein rest at 122. I'm planning to use 2 infusion steps to get to 154 instead of decoction techniques. My...
