    Saison recipe

I just started drinking my homebrewed saison that had 1lb of candy suger in a 5 gallon batch and I'm already planning on adding more sugar to the next batch. Your recipe looks good. Good Luck!

    First batch help

I don't think there's a reason to slam the OP for having a misstep on his first batch. Isn't that why this is in the Beginners section of the forum? I'm guessing that through this thread he's already picked up on the idea of adding extra hops when adding extra DME or LME. Lesson learned - no...

    First batch help

That explains the sweetness. Like others have said, the taste will mellow out the more you leave the bottles at room temperature. Enjoy this batch. If you don't like the sweetness, mix a little well hopped IPA of your choice in a glass with your homebrew and it will balance it out for now. My...

    Final Gravity Podcast Live tonight!

Nice show on the keggerators. I have been to the store and saws Joe's setup. It's every bit as sweet as you guys described it - plus he had some great homebrew in it to share!

New brewer in need of advice

Brewing TV is an online video podcast, so it's available everywhere you can get online. Here's a link to the site: http://www.brewingtv.com/ I'm not in Australia, so I can't help with any local stuff, but there are probably some great recipe kits that you can buy online and have shipped to...

New brewer in need of advice

Hey, it's nice to see other newbies here. I'm only 3 batches into the hobby and I'm definitely hooked! So far the biggest help I've gotten has been from my local home brew shop, 2 books: The Complete Joy of Home Brewing & How to Brew, this forum, and watching Brewing TV (love this show!)...

I've heard that JJ Bitting, the brewpub in Woodbridge has a "brewer for a day" thing. I've never done it, but it sounds like fun. Here's a link to their website: http://njbrewpubs.com/

First Saison for Home Brew Day

oh, forgot to answer your temp question. I pitched at about 70º and my basement stays in the range of 65-68º Looks like people are going higher with their saisons, but I'm limited to only using my unfinished basement for all brewing related activities for now. :)

First Saison for Home Brew Day

The yeast worked well for me in the primary. It went in at 1.060 (a little higher than I expected) and was 1.012 when I transferred to the secondary. It was very aggressive and I only avoided needing a blow off because I had just about 5 gallons of wort in a 7 gallon bucket. I've given it a few...

First Saison for Home Brew Day

Genjin, I did my first saison about a 3 weeks ago and I'll be bottling it this weekend. Like you, I've been loving the smell coming out of the carboy. Can't wait to taste! I'd love to hear how yours turned out so I could adjust my recipe the next time I brew it up. BTW, here's my partial mash...

Brewers Best Kit best beer to start with

The 5 gallon pot will be plenty of space. The BB recipes have you boiling about 2.5 gallons and then adding the rest in cold water after the boil, so your pot will give you more than enough space to avoid a boil over. I'm very new to this and started with the exact same set up as you (BB deluxe...

North Jersey "Boonton/ Morristown" area's new homebrew shop.

I'm new to homebrewing and Joe at the Cask and Kettle has been a great resource. The store has plenty of equipment and ingredients for extract, partial mash, and all grain brewers. Not only was Joe approachable & helpful with my newbie questions, but lat time I was in he had some fantastic...
