    Difficulty matching British water profile

Great input Larry. Some questions. I try and adopt consistent and sound best practices. I sample the wort from the top of the mash (which is recirculated) in a small beaker after stirring. That is then put in an ice water bath with the temp probe. The pH reading is taken when the temp is...

    Difficulty matching British water profile

in the above post I addressed the water profile. This addresses the pH situation. As I stated, this is a BIAB (no sparge) recipe. Brewfather and Bru’n water had the pH coming in at around 5.1 - 5.2 and I was looking at how to increase this so I balanced the minerals and in particular the...

    Difficulty matching British water profile

Great inputs @cire @marc1 and @DuncB. Sorry I didn’t respond immediately but yesterday was brew day and I had to move forward and brew the beer. So to answer the questions above, this is a popular British beer that I have brewed several times but this time I decided to focus more on the water...

    Difficulty matching British water profile

Thanks. I will post the details below although I am a little concerned about disclosing the brewery since they have been so forthcoming to me regarding the recipe ingredients, water profile and mash temp etc

    Difficulty matching British water profile

I haven’t had the raw local water tested but it tastes terrible and all the houses in the small development I live were built with whole house filters, water softeners and under-sink RO systems. IMHO if water tastes bad, don’t brew with it.

    Difficulty matching British water profile

Yep I wouldn’t do that. There are just so many variables when it comes to matching a profile and trying to meet a specific pH.

    Difficulty matching British water profile

Thanks for the great input @cire. I have just read a few more posts in this folder. In particilar one by @Silver_Is_Money which says to never mix CaOH2 and Baking soda as it will form insoluble calcium carbonate which will drop out. Given that and the fact hydrochloric acid isn’t too easy to...

    Difficulty matching British water profile

Hi – I am trying to brew a clone of a beer I used to drink a lot of in England and have tried the recipe several times, but it has missed the mark. I decided to delve more into the water profile and managed to get a profile from the brewery and I have entered the characteristics into Bru’n...

    Komos Kegerator?

I have two of these which have been operating for 9 months. They do not make that noise and I have been very happy with them.

    Dispensing English Ales

I thought about using the spunding valve but that’s a very different mechanism. It vents off CO2 above a preset limit which is OK when it’s ‘free’ CO2 from the fermentation. However when it’s CO2 from a cylinder being fed to all the other kegs at 12psi, the spunding valve will vent off valuable...

    Dispensing English Ales

Thanks - I hadn't seen the DuoTight controller with the gauge and I see that they sell a version with a 0-15psi gauge which is good. The stock 0-60 gauge would be next to useless for controlling pressures in the single digits. Has anybody any experience with these? The price is right. I may...

    Dispensing English Ales

Hi - I am originally from England and have been working on perfecting an English Bitter recipe. I tend to carbonate on the low side, but the beer doesn't quite taste the same as a typical pub ale. Today I kegged ten gallons of the latest batch of bitter from my Spike CF10 fermenter. I use a...

I still have some work to do, but here's mine so far. Six tap home built tower with capacity for eight kegs in the two Komos kegerators.

TapitGood - digital tap list [new]

Thanks for a great program and for the instructions for loading TapItGood on a Raspberry Pi from Malt & Mayhem (@MaltandMayhem). I had experimented with putting the taplist up on the TV using ClickSimply running on an Amazon FireStick but it didn’t offer the ease of use and flexibility of the...

TapitGood - digital tap list [new]

This is a good easy to use program. I like it. The page displays well on a browser, but what is the best way of putting this up on a tv monitor. If I cast/share the screen with the tv, I get the URL, search window and tabs at the top. There must be a way of displaying just the taplist on the...

    Trunk line cooling reservoir

I just did some meausuring and I think I have two options. 1) Find a metal container that is 5” diameter and tall enough to hold 2-3 gallons. A paint can is too wide to fit. 2) Buy 2-3 ‘shorty’ torpedo kegs and use one for the water reservoir to chill the trunk line and the others, stacked on...

    Trunk line cooling reservoir

Thanks Duncan. I really wanted to use the full four keg capacity of my Komos kegerator and squeeze in a smaller reservoir. Back in my college days I could have calculated the amount of coolant capacity needed given the ambient temperature, the insulation on the trunk line, the kegerator...
