    breaker/wire size for heating element

Correct, a short circuit in your panel will give you the worst case scenario. And the breakers in the panel need to be rated to interrupt that fault current, since the fault could be at the load side terminals of the breaker. If the short occurs down the line at the load then the fault...

    breaker/wire size for heating element

And as others have mentioned, increasing wire size will increase the short circuit current.

    breaker/wire size for heating element

Calculating the available short circuit current is more complicated than that. You would need information all the way back to the transformer on the pole outside your house. This includes transformer data, cable sizes and cable lengths. Basics of short circuit current...

    Brew Boss Systems

Must be a characteristic of my HT, even with the longer probe I still had to recirc to get a uniform temperature. I do feel however that the probe was reading temperature very accurately.

    Brew Boss Systems

Today I final had a chance to brew a batch on my two vessel system. It all went fairly well. It looks like I'll have to adjust the parameters to suit the BoilCoil better (I think I currently have them set on the recommended default for 5 gallon batches). During the boil the power was at 20%, but...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

Good advice on disassembly. Having just pulled apart the three piece valves on the hot side of my setup for the first time I'd pull apart the ones on the cold side each and every batch. The valves hold liquid in them along with gunk getting stuck in the threads. I don't think cleaning/sanitizing...

    No sparge technique?

Right now I'm mainly trying to validate changing my 10 gallon mash tun pledge in the Chapman Homebrew kickstarter to a 15 gallon, then I can tackle the method: stir, no stir, full volume, two volumes, etc.

    No sparge technique?

I'm moving to a two vessel system and thinking how to eliminate draining the first runnings to a bucket with my current batch sparge method. The way to do this is to get the full volume of water into the mash tun to free up the heating tank for the boil. Just to clarify: In your process do...

Simple yes, plenty of tips here on HBT on how to drill into vessels.

anybody else annoyed with the whole IPA craze?

Now I'm really annoyed! Looks like two of my favorite beers are going by the wayside due to it: http://www.corkscapsandtaps.com/?p=2331 "...Founded in 1991, Otter Creek in those relatively early days of craft brewing was known for its Copper Creek Ale and Stove Pipe Porter. Both are now...

    Blichmann Boil Coil

It doesn't have to be aligned with anything. You can place it anywhere in the kettle, as long as it doesn't interfere with anything inside and there is room for the plug on the outside. The lower in the kettle the better.

Maybe you're just a high functioning alcoholic, at least that's what me and my friends tell our selves......

Now it looks like I have to decide 10 or 15 gallon, thinking 15 to move to a no sparge setup.
