It's never seen boiling water. In a search plenty of threads come up on warped and cracked coolers. Maybe some brands or round coolers are more prone to it.

Exactly, don't think I would have noticed it had I not removed them. Also, all of them needed a good cleaning with a brush in that 3/8" section.
