    Yeast suggestions?

Hey y'all, I haven't been on here or made anything since early 2018, life has been busy lol. This last weekend my girlfriend and I started 30 gallons of my crowd favorite mead recipe - a Elderberry concoction adapted from a cold remedy Elderberry Syrup my mother made us as kids. We also started...

    New to beer

Alright, well I am getting ready to order the last pieces of equipment, as well as malted barley, malted oats and and whole corn kernels, all of which I will crack to .025. So my last question before I embark on this journey, is can ya'll recommend a good yeast to compliment this combination?

    New to beer

I depending on how this goes, I may end up trying a recipe. As I dont know much about gravity when it comes to grains (straight sugars -honey, etc.- is much easier to calculate), if I am aiming for a 5 gallon ferment and an abv of say 5-7%, how many lbs should I use if I go 70% barley, 20% corn...

    New to beer

So what is the mash temp of corn and oats vs. barley? Could I hit the temps of the oats/corn and then add the barley and amylase once the temp drops? Assuming I am understanding things correctly to begin with...? Lol I was hoping to start out with 60% barley, 20% corn and 20% oats, if you think...

    New to beer

Okay, so I will have to order one of those bags when I get the chance, as well as the wort chiller. As soon as I have the extra cash (been slow at work lately.. [emoji53]) I will order a grain mill and go from there, but that sounds like a good start. Also, tell me if this is a horrible idea...

    New to beer

This is all awesome information, guys, thanks again! So I am gonna start out with the single vessel BIAB to get my feet wet, and may change things from there. What is the best kind of bag to use? Preferably something I might find on Amazon? [emoji482]

    New to beer

Thanks guys, So a little more detail, I currently have a 15 gallon Bayou Classic kettle and propane burner I use for my batches of mead. I also have (3) 5 gallon glass carboys, a couple 1 gallon carboys, and plenty of siphoning hoses, hydrometer, etc. I would like to do 5 gallon batches to...

    New to beer

Hey ya'll, I've been fermenting my own mead for a bit over a year now. Had some success and some failure. I really want to get into all grain brewing, while I understand that extract brewing is probably easier to start out with I am less interested is that. My big question is this - what all do...

I think you need to add an enzyme called Amylase to convert the starches into sugars? Its available on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006O93SYQ/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    Ancient Braggot recipe help

Being that I have only made mead, anything beer related goes straight over my head. Maybe I over complicate things, but I usually just get confused.. So, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but if you wanted to use barley instead of extract without a mash set-up, could you not just put the...

    Ancient Braggot recipe help

What was your OG/FG? What kind of yeast and honey did you end up using? I would be interested in trying a version of this myself

If you don't mind sharing, what kind of set up are you running?

    Newbie Braggot Recipe

That all depends on the protocols taken and the recipe. I have one recipie that is as smooth as can be and delicious straight out of the carboy after a 2 month ferment sitting at 19%ABV, while another was only 15%ABV and was undrinkable for almost 6 months.

    Stovetop Still

Hey ya'll! Haven't been on for a while, been working like crazy - 70-80+ hours a week plus a 2-3 hour commute home for 3 months - so I haven't had much time. Anyways, I am looking for creative ideas for what to build a stovetop still out of.. I'm thinking somewhere between 4 - 10 gallons...

Adding more yeast = higher ABV?

Saying it will never start is inaccurate. It is POSSIBLE it won't start, or it may stall. Depending on your protocal and recipie/yeast it could vary. I started a batch about 2 months ago with a SG of 1.158, added appropriate amounts of Fermaid-K/perG and it was rip-roaring in 1.5 hours and is...

Is my wild fermented mead moody? New brewer..

I don't mean to say that you shouldn't try to understand other cultures, simply that in recent years (or so it seems to me.. ) we have taken the position of doing whatever it takes to make everyone else happy while not taking care of our own, and in doing so let others walk all over us doing...

Is my wild fermented mead moody? New brewer..

But I do agree that some of the stuff the Vikings made are extremely well made and beautifully crafted. I have my eyes on a set of replicated "silverware" from the late Viking era. Unfortunately its an expensive hobby when it comes to collecting..

Is my wild fermented mead moody? New brewer..

I don't know if I entirely agree with that. I know I will probably get a lot of flack for this, but I think - to a degree - we need to get back to our roots, be that as a single person, country or world. Not that you should grab some axes and swords and go rape, pillage and plunder, but all this...

Is my wild fermented mead moody? New brewer..

I agree that there is something to be learned from every culture and what mead meant to them and you shouldnt count out the others just because one civilization is popular at the moment. While there is no denying that the vast majority of Vikings were farmers, they were also some of the most...
