I'm in the low 70s here, that's as cool as I can get my apartment. It's 93 friggin degrees outside right now.
I sniffed around my fermentor lid and there's a hint of a beery smell, so that's encouraging, I guess -- but it's so hot here I'll probably have some of those off flavors mentioned...
I kinda did. When nothing happened for a day or so I slapped it around a bit again. Then, like a classic abuser, I felt bad about it and tried to comfort it. Then I slapped it around again, felt bad, etc.
I'm not even making that up.
Hi all -- My first batch has been fermenting for about 40 hours now.
There are tiny non-moving bubbles in the airlock that formed pretty much immediately (actually, I've seen one or two go to the surface and break, but they're mostly non-moving). No other airlock activity.

This is how I got started, except I ended up not buying it. I had always been interested in home brewing... and this Groupon (it's been popping up in various cities for a while) kinda got me going. Except I realized I didn't have a big pot or anything, so I ultimately bought a kit from another...
Do you have to take constant temperature readings with the ice bottle method? Is there a chance you'll make it too cold?

Thanks, I'll look into it...
...another saison mention -- this is good, I like saisons. Maybe I can brew one of these in July or August.
Thank you.
I live in a condo. Space is an issue... I...
Hello -- I just brewed my first beer today (and already had my first n00b infection panic, posted in another thread)... and no matter how this batch turns out, I want to brew another.
Here's the thing: I live in New York, and when I am ready to brew again it will be mid-July or August... and...
Thanks everyone -- I don't feel so terrible anymore.
Glad I found this site -- I've been meaning to give homebrewing a try for a while now, lurking on these forums and reading everyone's experiences finally gave me the courage to actually go for it.
Didn't realize I'd be posting my first...
Hello -- total noob here, I just brewed my first batch today and after being extra careful not to even breath on my wort when it cooled, I made the awful mistake of cutting the yeast packet open over my wort.
The top strip fell it (actually floated on top of the foam) and I quickly pulled it...
