    So who's brewing this weekend?

Maybe I'll try malting a little bit- my dad works at a grain elevator so I have access to all the raw corn, wheat and rye I want. I've only used a bit of corn so far in a cream ale.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Ahh, sorry I should have been clearer.. is the red wheat malted?
  3. jonny24

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Is that raw wheat or malted? I don't see many people specifying red or white wheat so that's what made me think raw. I'm planning on brewing tomorrow but I have no idea what yet. Probably a pale ale or my house pilsner to build up for Christmas... but I might change my mind completely.

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

I've told my dad this a million times, pointing out that he's gonna stir up all the sediment (which unfortunately there's a fair amount sometimes). He always shrugs and says he doesn't really care about that. I don't have much of a problem with that, what I do have a problem with is that when I...

Proper name for "Sierra Nevada Style Bottles"?

I never heard them called anything since no one else I know drinks them. Due to seeing the acronym SNPA for the beer, in my head I call them Snappa bottles :D

You know you're a home brewer when?

Follow-up: When you get ahead of yourself planning your kegerator... and it turns out the guy has no cash, so the bumper has to go through insurance... ...But you decide to build the kegerator anyway. :mug:

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you get rear ended, and instead of using the cash from the guy to replace the bumper, you start googling kegging setups.

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

My girlfriend and I went to Barcelona this spring, and found the exact same thing. We actually went into a corner store and bought the cheapest one we could find just to see what it was like. Turns our 2 EUR wine can be pretty good :mug: We later had a 4 EUR one that wasn't great.... so doubling...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

At rugby practice: "Coors isn't beer... they make it so fast that it isn't done yet when they put it in the cans, so it's not technically beer when it leaves the brewery" I have to imagine someone tried explaining bottle carbonation to him at some point. I didn't feel like explaining...

    Beer fads that have passed

I just got back from Barcelona, and all over the place they serve half n half beer mixed with Lemon Fanta... so kind of like a radler. My girlfriends family does something similar to a Smirnoff "rocket" posted a page or two back, only it's a lager mixed with a Palm Bay cooler. They call them...

    Lager infections

I just had an infection in a lager. It was in my unheated back room throughout January and February- hovering in the 0-10 C range. I had a box on it to keep light off and would check on it every so often. I don't know how long it was between checks, but one day it had a fully formed white skin...

    Czech Pilsner Guidance

I'd say to pick up a temp controller. I have a plug and play Inkbird and it's awesome. Option 2, manually keep an eye on the temp in there and unplug/open the door as needed. Option 3, swamp cooler with swapping out frozen bottles, or with a cold cloth on top for evaporative cooling.

Adding froot loops to the grain bill

Bell City Brewing has made two cereal beers, called Breakfast at Tiffany's. The first one I believe used Captain Crunch and the second was raspberry mini-wheats (I think).

What are your contrarian/"unpopular" beer opinions?

I just like the satisfaction of doing it all myself. Same reason I hand- destemmed the grapes for my wine instead of just buying a bucket of juice. One day I want to try malting my own barley, and growing it too. But that's a ways away for me. But it seems like it doesn't do anything for...

I'm going pro... got any questions?

Nah... Dover is in Norfolk, and we have three or four breweries. :mug: Didn't know that... I know pretty well where you are now, but I won't blow it for you :mug: But I will for sure be stopping by! living in Norfolk now and moving to Hamilton.
