Went back through the thread and confirmed that the differences were mentioned on the first page (at least on the mobile version of the site), right around where you asked about the flat rate shipping. I know it doesn't make your frustrations go away, but it was discussed.

I'm pretty sure that earlier in this thread someone asked about the difference and it was mentioned that the lid is different (which indicates a different gasket). There were even links to pictures. It may have been a different thread but I'm pretty sure that Joshua was the one that addressed it.

Yeah, thats a factor and the coolers run $50-60. It's more of ease of build and cleaner look of a cooler. But probably not worth it if it's less efficient. A sheet of the foam probably runs $20, then I'd probably line it with corrugated plastic or something. So I assume cost savings would be...

Was thinking of making a fermentation chiller that would basically be connected to a keezer. I'm looking to have it hold a single bucket/carboy. Which got me wondering if a big cooler (around 120quart) would provide better insulation then the 2in pink insulation sheets? Any ideas if a cooler...

That is a very interesting concept. I wonder what sort of height would be required to clear a 5 gal corny. I also assume that the front of the collar would need to angle back to meet the lid. Hard to visualize without a cooler in from of me.
