Any other recent/to be new Dads?

New dad again. We have a 22 month old and now have a 1 month old. Last brew day was while I was on daddy leave; not much time as of late and I need to get something going since the pipeline is depleted. Being a dad is so great though. Let's not forget all the great Moms; not just tomorrow but...

    backsweeten questions

That's what I'm not sure about since I only do one gallon. That would be the logical thinking but I can't confirm. Another route that I have heard of is sweetening to your liking at bottling time; then adding the same amount of priming sugar you would for a batch of beer. The idea being that it...

    backsweeten questions

I use frozen apple juice concentrate. I use one can for a gallon batch, let it carb for about 4-5 days, then stovetop pasteurize. Result is a semi-sweet, carbonated cider that is very refreshing. My wife loves it.

    3 Gallon Kegs

I just know for these particular ones. Some vendors actually indicate that in the description. The brushed stainless one is the AEB out of Italy and the shiny stainless is from China. Now that I think of it, I think these are the only new ball locks that can be purchased; the other types are...

    3 Gallon Kegs

I have a 3 gal and a 2.5 gal AEB kegs. I have been happy with them; they are basically nicer/new pepsi ball locks. The posts do come off and the poppets can be replaced. I think you will be satisfied with the purchase. Posts...

    3 Gallon Kegs

There was a site that tested the metal of the Chinese kegs and there were issues with them. I'll try to find the link, but there were issues with rusting and the metal not being the grade that was claimed. The second keg (more expensive) that was linked above is the Italian made version and are...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

The idea of dissolving in hot water is to uniformly dissolve the sugar. Adding this liquid to the bottling bucket and then adding the beer ensures that the sugar mixes uniformly with minimal stirring; thereby reducing the chances of oxidation. It's easier to mix two liquids then a solid and a...

Carlo Rossi Hard Cider Brewing Tips

To add sweetness and carbonation, I transfer to a bottling bucket that contains a can of apple juice concentrate (thawed), mix it all together (gently stirring) and transfer to seltzer water bottles (empty/sanitized). Let them sit for 3-4 days at room temp, checking them daily for hardness; then...

Are there any places in NoVa that carry those 5 liter kegs (not heine/Newcastle)? Generally, they seem to be German beers from what I've seen; I just haven't found any stores that carry them locally. TIA

    TAP-A-DRAFT: first impression...

I plan on trying a few more places around other errands and will report back. But I'm not hopeful as the finder seems entirely out of date.
