    240v Wiring Help?

Maybe I am crazy but how does that pot control the relay?

Does Roselare in Flanders Red need a starter?

So if I wanted to brew a larger batch of sour I would just have to buy multiple smack packs?

    Cornelius Kegs question

All of the pin locks I've seen are shorter and fatter than ball locks. Personally I would go for ball locks because they are skinnier and you can fit more of them in a kegerator/keezer as height doesn't seem to be as much of an issue. :)

    Just Planted

I am a little concerned as my Crystal plant from last year hasn't come up yet. It was very healthy last year but we had a long cold winter. Is there still hope?

    Tubing Explosion

Note to self: regular 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD vinyl tubing cannot handle household water pressure with hot water inside.

How dumb are your state/province's liquor laws?

Manitoba is similar to Ontario. The MLCC is the only place you can buy spirits. Beer stores that sell cases of swill are allowed but only in hotels, and there are some wine stores, but anyone selling any alcoholic beverage sold in Manitoba has to go through the MLCC. Their markup on beer and...

    Keezer build

Done most of my keezer build. Have been wanting to do this for a long time. Two beers on tap is just not enough... :) Got the freezer for $200 from a sketchy used appliance store. The guy who sold it to me kept telling me how great of a deal I was getting, if he had refurbished it then it...

    How many kegs?

    14. I don't feel like I could ever have too many. Out of every batch 2 kegs go to friends, I keep 2 for myself and bottle the rest.

    Steeling grains.

I don't think I that any kind of malt extract contains the enzymes necessary for mashing. How would this be a partial mash? EDIT: I definitely misread the above post. Derp

    Large fermentation chamber

Never got to really test for lager temps, no time. I used it for an ale fermentation (Oatmeal stout using Wyeast 1318), so it didn't have to work very hard. I actually only had it closed for the first two days. My tap water is getting cold, and as a result I accidentally chilled the wort...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

I started with 20 gallon batches but am mostly doing 30 now. I am planning to move it all inside pretty soon. Was hoping to get in one more outdoors brew but then this happened this evening. Up until earlier today there was no snow. Such is life in Winnipeg :(

Heh. I don't have any pics right now but its just a simple stainless braid in the bottom of the MT. The only problem I have had with the RIMS tube (it's the one from Stout Tanks) is that the way its configured new with a probe on one end, the probe was not giving accurate temps. I reconfigured...

    Boiling LME in a bucket?

Maybe the problem with LME would be that, when you pour it into water, it sinks right to the bottom. As long as you scraped it all off the bottom to get it all dissolved you shouldn't have an issue. Also I would try to avoid getting LME on the heating element, it could trap the heat in and...

    Boiling LME in a bucket?

While I don't think I would do it myself, many people have had success boiling in HDPE buckets. Not sure where you got the 120 number from but it can take boiling temps. EDIT: Actually I think the 120 you are thinking of is 120 C.

    Large fermentation chamber

Yeah, as I said I'm not sure but I don't intend to make many lagers. I could always lager in kegs in another chamber/freezer. I would be happy if I can keep the beer at ~60. I have had success lagering in a similarly sized chamber with a similar A/C unit. The design of that one made it much...

    Large fermentation chamber

Yup, its a 5500 BTU unit. The inside dimensions are 5' 3" W x 3' D x 6' 10" H. I made it just big enough to fit the conicals as I didn't want to take up more space than necessary in my house. As for the temperature I am not sure; I haven't actually used it yet. The controller temp probe goes...

AG: how long is your normal brew session (milling grain to fermenter)???

It always seems to take around 6-7 hours for a regular brew. This is including clean up, malt grinding, heating water etc. for a 30 gallon batch. If I had already heated water/already milled grain I could probably do it in 5 1/2.
