IPA with Saison Yeast - Opinions please

Had to try one after 3 weeks conditioning. I'm going on vacation and will be gone for two weeks so wanted to see where the beer was at now and compare when I'm back. Pretty good, fruity notes from the yeast, dry finish and I don't really notice the twang anymore. -- Nathan

    658 IBUs!

I'll try it if I can afford it, but my upper limit for bombers is around $8 unless I know I'll love it. As for Sam, everything I've seen on Netflix or in interviews make me think he'd be fun to have a few beers with. -- Nathan

    Tripel now has strange flavor

Just a thought, but, there's no way you would be able to sanitize the spigot in between samples right? There will still be a little beer stuck in there when you close it. I presume it's possible that is getting infected and then getting into your samples / bottling. -- Nathan

That's a tasty looking stout right there. -- Nathan

Would you buy beer in smaller cans?

Maybe I'm a lush, but it'd be all about price for me. 12oz of big beer is juuuust fine and a bomber just means I don't have to get up for a fresh beer as often. -- Nathan

    priming individual bottles

I've used coopers carb drops in my first brew with no issues. Only real problem is you can't really carb to style. I got lazy this round and had a leftover bag so I used them again. I'll get around to making my simple syrup and mixing it when I rack eventually. -- Nathan

Keeping bottles warm (for aging/carbonating) in the winter?

I'd think a fish tank heater inside that cooler with a little water to distribute the heat to the bottles would do the trick. -- Nathan

IPA with Saison Yeast - Opinions please

I did that actually, based on your experience I stuck with a fairly standard level of carbonation. -- Nathan

IPA with Saison Yeast - Opinions please

Lets try two at once... I don't use finings (though I've considered it) or cold crash, but I do let the beer sit in primary for at least 3 weeks so things can settle out. I've done two beers and both have been clear like this at bottling. I did have trouble with the yeast cake being...

IPA with Saison Yeast - Opinions please

Good advice :-) I will be forced to let these age a bit as I leave for a 10 day vacation in roughly two weeks so while I'll be tempted to try one before I leave, I'll most likely leave them be till I get back. -- Nathan

IPA with Saison Yeast - Opinions please

First off, apologies if I shouldn't be bumping this old thread. Finally bottled my attempt this past weekend. OG of 1.072 FG of 1.008 for a nice 8.4% abv beer. I'm pretty happy with the attenuation. Belle Saison lives up to it's rep as not flocculating very well. I used cut a piece of a...

Those are both useful links, thanks! I'm on the fence, but I may have to get this for my next brew... -- Nathan

Just started brewing this year, so my revelation was, this is fun! -- Nathan

Anyone try The Brew Jacket ?

I'm more interested in this for temp control than lagering, though I will probably want to try lagering someday. My place is tiny, and ambient temps are always 70 or higher so controlling fermentation temperatures is a challenge. Currently brewing with Saison yeast, but it'd be nice to be able...

Anyone try The Brew Jacket ?

I've been curious about this one as well. Living in a tiny apartment means something like this would make temp control much easier than a water bath. -- Nathan

IPA with Saison Yeast - Opinions please

Agreed, based on your experience I'll definitely err on the conservative side for readings / bottling.
