Sorry dude. Just reread your post and you already answered my question. Yeah I love my Blingman too. I think I could make this work with a 20 gallon brewpot, a 15 gallon mash tun and my 10 gallon blickman as a HLT with a cooler for backup if I need more sparge water.

I am currently doing 5 gallon batches. Been wanting to step up to 10. Have a 10 gallon blingman and 2 10 gallon coolers. Been thinking about a 15 gallon blichman mlt and a 20 gallon brewpot. It would probably be tight for a big beer. How much grain can you fit in the 15 gallon tun with 1.25...

I usually ferment at the low end of the recommended temp range for the yeast being used. 65 for WLP028 or 60 for Wyeast 1728. Could probably go as low as 55 for the 1728. I am still using the swamp cooler method do not have room for a ferm chamber. It is good to see your rig coming together. Is...

Sorry for the delayed response had to leave for work. (B shift) Peated malt is distillers malt smoked over peat. A little bit goes a long way. This is a very malt forward beer. FWIW IMO MO would be the preferred base for this style of beer.

I have used Northern Brewer and noticed no difference. Perle hops should work as well. By the way my deception cream stout is going fast. Really thinking about doing this one again. Good luck and hope you enjoy the Scotch Ale. The longer it is aged the better it gets.

Dam you guys are fast! Actually I have not tried it yet. It is sitting in my brew closet in a keg primed with corn sugar awaiting an open tap. Love cream stouts and would have jumped all over this split if I had seen it sooner.

I have beersmith 2 and brewed this recipe 2 weeks ago. I entered the late (flameout) additions under boil.

Single malt and single hop. The main reason for this style of brewing is to learn about the ingredients being used.

Added 1/4 interest to the BD-BLCK split. Could do 1/3 but would prefer 1/4. We have time let 's see where this goes. Also Mr. Cidah, kegged up my deception cream stout today. Hydro sample tasted absolutely wonderful. Was wondering how you were doing with yours. From reading your posts I believe...

Uh-Oh think I'm in trouble. Brewing my wee heavy and made a slight change to my sparging procedure. Was anticipating a pre boil gravity 1.063 hit 1.077. Checked this 3 times to verify. We shall see where this actually ends up for OG. Wish me luck.

Rohrbachs here in the roc makes a very good scotch ale. All the Wegmans stores in the area sell growlers. Do not know if available in your area but if you get a chance it is worth trying.

Roasted barley should should work fine. I have made this several times. Entered this beer in the HBT comp last year. Scored a 41 in the final round and took first place for category 9.

Mash efficiency is determined by your preboil gravity. I use a refractometer to check preboil and postboil gravity. If using a hydrometer the sample needs to be cooled to get accurate readings. If you plug in your numbers including volume collected into beersmith it will show your efficiency...
