    Abrasive For Stainless Steel

I recently acquired basically a factory second Stainless Steel fermenter that the seem didn’t get dressed properly. I figured I might try to make use of it in some capacity if I can polish up the seem. My question is what abrasives are best in this application?

    New Chapman Fermenter Issues

Chapman had a link on their site called Howdy Brewer that I purchased from. I tried to fill out an exchange request form on their site but it would let me submit it, maybe site was having some issues. I emailed Howdy explaining both the site issues & product issues. I emailed Chapman also...

Chapman. Never had anything from them but thought I would give them a shot. I will keep you posted on how things go.

    New Chapman Fermenter Issues

Yeah that’s my concern. Posted this to make sure I’m not being too picky or paranoid.

Got a new Fermenter in the mail today but it’s got a seam. What would you think if you were me?

Should I be Concerned that my Brew Kettle is 201 Stainless Steel?

I’ve been brewing in plastic brew buckets for years and usually replace them every year in January and repurpose them for something else. It’s not that big of an expense and adds a little insurance against bad bugs. This time was different I ordered a Chapman 14 gallon fermenter instead of the...

Should I be Concerned that my Brew Kettle is 201 Stainless Steel?

Yep I believe so. 304 is more magnetic than 316. Think the more chromium the less ferrous.

Should I be Concerned that my Brew Kettle is 201 Stainless Steel?

😊 Yeah what I figured. I looked around and just about every hombrew supply or kitchen supply out there sales some brand of a 201ss kettle in a variety of sizes . If it was dangerous I’m not sure this would be happening.

Should I be Concerned that my Brew Kettle is 201 Stainless Steel?

I seen in some different places on this forum & others some have expressed concerns or opinions over the safety of using 201 with brewing. Even some have insinuated it may have possible health risks. Been using my 201ss Brewers Best 16 gallon kettle for about a year. Thought it was a good...

    Noticed Something Today

Yeah I’ve seen grain stored in silo type grain containers for either auger or gravity feed. Seems I’ve seen this at some breweries maybe but can’t remember.

    Noticed Something Today

Yep stitching was loose & yeah maybe from being slung about or worn out stitcher. Not super worried about bugs more about possible subpar base grain. I’ll try not to fret too much but I probably will anyway until I get a taste of the finished product made with this grain.

    Noticed Something Today

Yep the Briess was in a sort paper type bag with a pretty decent seal across. Been a while since I bought a sack of Briess but usually those types are lined inside I think. Next time you’re out shopping look at The GW malt bags and see if you notice anything. Maybe what I saw on these bags...

    Noticed Something Today

I was strolling through my lhbs today to pickup a few things along with a sack of 2 row. Usually when I shop for anything not just beer stuff I look the selection over gravitate towards the particular item I had in mind and if several are available I pick the one that looks like it’s in best...

    Blue Monster PTFE Thread Tape

I have always used regular old white Teflon/PTFE tape on my brew kettle fittings, but I ran out and I had a new role of blue monster PTFE thread, tape. Any reason not to use it that you know of? I really think this is the same thing as the white tape just thicker. I looked at their site and I...

    Rice Mash Method

I get your point but sometimes I’m really pressed for time with everything I have to juggle these days and the more prep I can do the night before the better sometimes.

    Rice Mash Method

What if you cooked it the night before and let it cool overnight? Wonder if that would be a problem?

    Rice Mash Method

I currently use a single infusion biab method. I have used adjuncts only in the form of flakes so it’s pretty easy. But I’m thinking of trying regular non flaked rice. Got a couple questions about how others are doing it. 1. How do I calculate strike water with something cooked separate and...

    Done with liquid yeast

This made me think of last year when I made a Festbier for Christmas. I brewed my usually 12 gallons like always but split the batch and pitched 2 packs of Diamond in one & 2 packs of Omega 106 no starter for the other. Fermented them in the mid 50s side by side and ended up liking the Diamond...

    Low ABV & Shelf Life

Yeah I got a temp controlled fermentation chamber & cold keg storage. As far as hops go I’m thinking Mt. Hood with mostly late boil additions to keep it balanced is probably going to be my route. Even considering the short & shoddy brew method I’ve seen discussed with reduced boil time & such.
