    Convincing the swmbo

In our (and by "our" I mean MY) case, I'm convincing HIM!!! Shopaholic chef (who doesn't work in the summer) + homebrew + internet access = big spending!!! Factor in brew rig envy and I could be in big trouble.

    concrete fermenters??

Samuel Smith brewery in England ferments in stone squares. Stone (usually slate) can give off minerals which the yeasties will thrive on. Not to mention the awesome temperature retention. If only space (and money) would allow such an investment.... Nice fermentor, Revvy!!!! Sarah.

First time Brewer -- Irish Red Ale

Oh man! I agree that waiting is better, no doubt. But, damn if I can hold out. Honestly, I hide the bottles. After a few days, I forget about them. Out of site, out of mind!!!

    ANOTHER Bacon/Smoked beer

I wanted real cooked bacon flavor not just smoke. I rendered about 24oz thick cut bacon (initially, I drained the grease), added a gallon of water and reduced by half. I skimmed the fat off the top constantly. I realized that most of the bacon "flavor" is in the fat (that's what makes it so...

SWMBO moving in and so it begins

Agreed!! This hobby/addiction started as his birthday gift....and now we can't fight over where to store the equipment, its everywhere (well, not in the bathroom). I want to build a kegerator (and a fermentation chamber and buy more carboys....) for the garage and he's being the rational/cost...

    Florida Boy

Brady: UCF?? I graduated in '01!! I lived in Oviedo for 3 years. Sometimes (rarely) I miss it. I live south of West Palm...had to move back to the coast. An hour to the beach is unacceptable. I started brewing in late May and just put my 4th batch into secondary. Not only is brewing your...

    Brewery names--what's your story?

I bought our first brew set up as a birthday gift for my boyfriend. We have been celebrating big events (birthdays, Christmas, etc) with a "Big Paddle" in our kayaks. A new homebrew is always a reason to celebrate!!

    New brewer from VA

Hi Hutch! I don't have much experience, but I'm pretty sure you're ok. It's probably yeast that got re-activated during the transferring from 1 to 2. Good Luck! Sarah.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just kegged a Lager, have Wheat in bottles, moved an into secondary with added flavoring and brewed up a Bacon/Maple stout!!! Can't wait! Happy 4th!!!

    Hi from Florida!!

Haven't take a class (yet??), just making it up as we go with help from the AWESOME folks at Bx!!! We've been going in about every week, usually Tuesdays. I'm going to try to get to their tasting tomorrow night!! Great to meet you!! Sarah.

    Hi from Florida!!

Ok, just checked out your website....it's TROUBLE!! I've got 4 kegs (arriving today) and a set up for one! I'm looking at putting together a kegerator and where to put it!! These days I have a tougher time at Home Depot than the mall....:D Thanks for the offer, I'll definitely take you up on...

    Hi from Florida!!

SwampassJ: Bx was my first stop!! I love them all, but blame them for my new addiction, I mean "hobby". The Florida summer isn't quite conducive to fermentation. My ac is on 65, so I'm FREEZING inside!!! I think FPL is loving me though. We've got an old shot out fridge in the garage for...

    Woman Brewmaster

Lady brewer here! Glad I came across this thread! I also started as a "gift" for my boyfriend. Then I just took over. My LHBS is owned by a woman, which is pretty exciting. I'm also a chef, a field that is also male-dominated. But, my knife bag is pink and so are most of my tools!! Girl...

    Airlock Problem.

Thank you! I appreciate your response. I'm really looking forward to this batch...not that I don't look forward to all of them, but this one has been my baby. Patience is a virtue I've never had. Thanks again, Sarah.

    Airlock Problem.

I have a Pale Ale in primary, I had a blow out tube on it for the first few days. As soon as it stopped spewing, I switched to the airlock. Everything was fine. This afternoon, I looked at it and it was full of a white liquid. I took the airlock off (maybe the wrong thing to do), sanitized...

    keg info

Thank you for this thread!! I put myself in a predicament by jumping the gun a bit. I've got a lager in my secondary (carboy) and an ale in my primary (carboy). My ale will be ready for secondary BEFORE my lager will be ready for racking. However, my kegs should be here Monday!!! I was...
