    Boca Raton, FL breweries/ pubs?

I've never been to the Duck. I'll check it out, though. Don't waste you time at Brewzzi (my opinion), but you gotta hit up the Mushroom. 1/2 price drafts on Mondays and awesome pizza 7 days!! Sarah.

    what is your occupation

In the winter I'm a Banquet Chef at a private residence/club/anything they want it to be for the right amount of money. Sarah.

    Boca Raton, FL breweries/ pubs?

TX... I know this is kind of late, but did you make it to the Mushroom? Its one of my favorites. I live just north of Delray. I've been to the Funky Buddha (only once) but I like the sign that says something like "if you think you ordered a BMC, you're in the wrong place". I like Brewzzi...

    Faucet to Hose Adapter

OP: I picked one up at Home Depot. I think it's brass and was pretty inexpensive. I've used it with my bottle washer and its been fine. Good Luck!! Sarah.

    This "HEAT DOME" %$#@ing sucks!!!!!!!

I'd rather sweat in the summer than shovel snow in the winter. It is pretty damn humid though (even by Florida standards). I started to build my fermentation chamber in my garage the other day, miserable. I could probably get a boil in my kettle just by putting it on the driveway for 15...

    how do you people stockpile??

That was my post!! I got the same advice you did; then I ordered some more carboys & picked up a couple of buckets!! I think it's sick irony to say "I'm a homebrewer, but I'm drinking commercial". I also come from a long line of beerdrinkers/alcoholics so the whole fam wants to "try" a brew...

    Lemon Zest

Did you leave them in for the primary?? Or strain them out?

I'm thinking of brewing this morning....

The looks on the faces of the neighbors with small children....priceless!! :tank:

    Aw crap, possible airlock contamination

    Just in case.....:p

    Aw crap, possible airlock contamination

You're not concerned about the plumber's crack contamination?!?!?! :p Although, I hear it adds spiciness.....

How much did you spend on gear before you made a "great" brew?

I could easily spend $200,000 on a bigger house with more space! And a bigger kitchen... All that aside after the initial purchase its not so bad. I think a propane burner is invaluable and am building a fermentation chamber this week (I live in Florida and need it). Just want (need) a few...

No nosy neighbors to ask if you're making meth or ask for beer!!!! :ban:

    Can't get a "pipeline" started.

Boomtown: Thank you so much for the reply. I know it makes the most sense to get more fermenters. I think "5 gallons" sounds like a lot more than it actually is. I work in a kitchen and 7 cooks can put away 5 gallons of water a day. Its not your average 120* kitchen either (we're spoiled at...

    Can't get a "pipeline" started.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies!! It's hard not to want to share the drinkable stuff. Even harder not to drink it!!! I know we need more fermenters, they're on the list. I'm building a chamber this week followed by a wort chiller. The "want list" is constantly growing.... Again, thanks...

    Can't get a "pipeline" started.

I can't be the only one having this problem, but maybe someone has some advice to help me out..... I started brewing in late May, my 6th batch is in primary. I can't seem to keep drinkable beer in the house! Between tapping kegs and giving bottles away, I sit here with NO HOMEBREW! I thought...

    Techniques for flavor extracts

+1 ^^ Agitation shouldn't matter. I soaked some lime zest in some Grey Goose for a batch of Lime-cello, then forgot about it for 4 days. It turned out delicious!!! Set it and forget it. Want to hear how the coconut-beer turns out!!

    Orange peel bitterness

Boiling the zest a few times (in fresh water every time) will kill the bitterness. I've done this to make candied citrus zest and it works. I've read on this site, though, that you can soak the zest in a clear liquor for a few days then add the liquor to your bottling bucket. I've never tried...

First batch of beer, slight off taste if not ice cold?

Hi t_money!! I live in South Florida and I feel your pain! For our first batch (in May) we turned the thermostat down to 70. We did a lager so we picked up an old shot out fridge at a thrift store. I don't think we'll do a lager again for a while, so this fridge is home to our kegs. We...

    Convincing the swmbo

Agreed!! I'm happy that my "other" half (would that be HWMO???) likes beer. And we brew together, which is the best part.
