Beginner Equipment Question - Secondary Fermentor

+1 But also make sure there aren't any scratches on the inside where bacteria could grow. Sarah.

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

Full-time Chef in the winter, full-time homebrewer in the summer. A perfect balance.... Sarah.

This batch failed. Need two quick recipes.

I haven't made biermuncher's Centennial blonde, but I have made a successful (and quick) cream ale. I'd vote for that. I can post the recipe, if you want. Good Luck!! Sarah.

Ant Drool and the Classic First Batch FAIL!

I don't think I would be worried about the 4 gallons instead of 5. You hit your goal of 1.055, just wait and see where it goes. We usually top off and haven't seen any ill effects. Hope the ants enjoyed their taste of brew before their lives were swept away.... Sarah.

Believe it (or not) that's my last name!!! I know, I know I've heard ALL the jokes, trust me going to middle school as "Sarah Dingle" was not easy!!! Thanks for the post and pictures, quite possibly my new favorite brewery!! :mug: Sarah.

    Does your Brother brew too?

No brothers, but my younger sister brews with me. Mostly by default, she moved in (due to a break up) right around the time we started brewing. She's stuck now but helps out and enjoys the benefits!!! Sarah.

Should I just dump it and start over?

The same thing happened to me a few batches back. Airlock exploded, I cleaned up the mess stuck a blow-off on it and let it go. Turned out to be a fine libation!!! It's worth all the waiting. Have fun scrubbing the malt off the kitchen floor!!!!!!! :drunk: Sarah.

How does everyone clean blowoff hose?

I do that (^) too. A good soak in some OxyClean goes a long way. And I buy cheap tubing from Home Depot that I won't feel bad about throwing away when it gets to gross. Good Luck! Sarah.

Birdman brewing has a 10g. SS pot for $74.99 until September 15th. Pretty good price compared to what I've seen for new. Sarah. http://www.birdmanbrewing.com/42-quart-economy-stainless-steel-brew-pot

Shows with major character changes that still succeeded?

Becky switched and switched back.....the son also changed once. I think there was one DJ for the first 2 or so episodes and one for the rest.

    Types of brew pots

+1 I would also like to hear the answer. "Found" one in my hall closet (that I guess I forgot I had) when cleaning it out to make room for BEER! Would like to use it... IMO I don't think it should be a problem. I've read that several brewers use aluminum with no problems. Sarah.
