    Gravity stalled

Its all pre done for me, I wanted to keep it simple for the first time. I swirled the cake from the bottom and if it doesn't drop in a week I will bottle it

    Gravity stalled

Measured with a hydrometer. the kit was an all grain pre boiled everything done, just a big ole bag-o-wort thats all grain some yeast and some other little things. but yeah if it does not drop I will bottle it. another question is, its a dark lager but the samples taste almost like a light...

    Gravity stalled

My gravity is stuck at 1.020 and I was wondering if you can re pitch yeast or do something else if swirling it doesn't work?

    Foam on wort?

I have only done one starter kit and I am still in the midst of it but if my eyes dont deceive me I would have to say that is foam from pouring your wort into the bucket or carboy and you have sprinkled your yeast over it. that's what I did and it looked like that right there. worked fine I saw...

Do you Drink Your Bad Beer?

I would save all my bad beers in a giant tub, I mean giant. around 200G tub. then when its full empty out your neighbors swimming pool and fill it with beer. Now that would be a pool!

    just bought a hydrometer

I will have to go put a thermometer in that room which I haven't done yet, Id say its 65-70. I placed the hydrometer in water and it hit 1.000 so I assume its calibrated. and the reading if your a few degrees off is minimal, I believe it said its around +0.0016GR at 70 degrees which is not...

    just bought a hydrometer

Yeah I will let it sit for the next 5 days then re check, but its safe to assume it started at 1.050GR because the kit says it should be at 1.050 and I followed the directions completely? I'm just worried maybe the GR was at like 1.020 already when I started? unlikely?

    just bought a hydrometer

Okay I am having no problems reading and such i just had a quick question. I bought a kit which included a bag of pre boiled all grain wort and yeast bottling sugar and such, you add 4 liters of water and the yeast and everything else included other than the sugar. On to my question. The box...

What I did for beer today

Stared at my carboy of Munich dark lager for about 20 minutes and labeled it, not very interesting but my first brew!

    No bubbles 3 days later!

So just because there are no bubbles does not mean there is no fermentation going on at the moment? I thought Co2 was the by product of fermentation?

    No bubbles 3 days later!

So I pitched my yeast in my brew house kit http://www.brewerylane.com/beer/brewhouse.html Bought from my local brewery supply store. essentially it contained a bag of already boiled all grain wort, yeast, sodium biocarb (or something like that. a balancing agent anyways) and some bottling sugar...

    Do I need a thief?

Yeah taken out of context my title is quite hilarious! I did not even notice that till now. Thank you all for the very fast responses!

    Do I need a thief?

Could I not just sterilize my 1/2 inch tubing and siphon off enough for a test every time? I just don't want to go buying everything when I'm not sure if I will stick with brewing. I would buy a wine thief after the 2nd or 3rd brew. But is siphoning acceptable?

Il for sure look into that book! thanks!... Oh stupid problems of the first time doing something. I placed the stopper into the neck and submerged it about 1 cm into the neck of the carboy so now when I rack it into secondary I have to cut out the stopper! oh well.
