Yes, this is another thread about selling beer... but on a tiny scale.

That is the thing though, I am not interested in the money. I don't want to own a brewery at this time in my life. However, I would love to have the opportunity to have people taste, and hopefully appreciate, my beer. (BTW - in Indiana you can direct sell) Yes I can host a tasting, but the...

Thank you... that is at least a valid argument. To me, it seems to make sense there should be a "lower" tier - than what will cost you a minimum of $75,000 to comply. And that doesn't include the facility. Easily surpass $150,000.

I get that, but why not then laws governing sanitation etc. in selling baked goods??? Again, you can get sick, really sick from eating contaminated food, obviously. But you cannot get sick from beer, even if contaminated. You would basically have to literally add something bad to your beer in...

Au Contraire' - I would be "nuts" then. I have a separate "brew house", not even connected to the house. I think there are more folks with brew sheds, garages etc. than you think.

I disagree. Let's take the example again of farmers markets. Most of the vendors there are not actually farmers of course, you can't possibly earn a living doing this. But make no mistake, there is a LOT of untaxed money exchanging hands at these markets. In my small city, absolutely five...

MODERATOR's NOTE and WARNING: I'm going to allow this thread as long as the discussion remains on topic, civil, informative, and merely hypothetical, and doesn't escalate into actually selling or promoting to sell beer, legally or illegally. Anyone grazing or crossing those boundaries will be...

How do you weigh your grains.

Appreciate it... ordering one now. :bigmug:

How do you weigh your grains.

I would love to have what we have at work. In the printing business, they are accurate within 0.001, you can place 1,000 post it note size pieces of paper on it, take one off and it will say 999. But, they are also about $700

How do you weigh your grains.

I do like that one for the "remote" display, also for the higher weight. So it does pretty good when just adding a small amount to reach what you want?
  12. I

How do you weigh your grains.

yes... and it is accurate. I think I have solved the problem, above where I mention it does not weigh small increments worth a damn. But it weighs "sudden" larger amounts well. So yes, if I place a 1 lb. weight on it, it will say 1lb. But if I place a 1/2 lb., then slowly add the other half it...

How do you weigh your grains.

Interesting, so I test this thing and it is actually very accurate unless you add a little at a time. In other words, if you set 8 lbs. on it at once, it will say 8 lbs. But f you pour a little at a time it doesn't change enough. So if you add 7 lb.s, and then slowly add another 1 lb. - you...

No I was weighing them prior to crushing

How do you weigh your grains.

Finally maybe 7-8 brews ago I purchased a Barley Crusher and have been very happy with it. It is nice to buy grains ahead of time and crush/brew when you want. So last week for the first time I purchased bulk grains. Cheaper and now I can truly brew when I want. Problem. How to accurately...

Cider airlock behaving like a vacuum?

Yeast get oxygen from the liquid not oxygen in the air. Like a fish...in a way. The only way a vacuum can be created in a sealed container is temperature change. Only way. Now... you say a 5 gallon water jug... is it plastic? It is possible when you were handling it you created a dent in it...

Cider airlock behaving like a vacuum?

A vacuum is created when the wort is getting cooler. Example... you chilled the wort after boiling down to say 80 F. You put it into chest freezer or whatever you use as a chamber... for the first several-several hours it will create a small vacuum. Temperature changes is the only possible way...

    Belgian Inspired Ales

Well that is the thing.... I want the Belgian character. That is what is so awesome about TaxMan's beers. They all have that Belgian characteristics in different beers.

    Belgian Inspired Ales

I have brewed Belgian beers, including a Triple that was very good. I am interested in brewing a beer like the example I showed, a "regular" golden ale, or a brown ale...whatever... and using Belgian yeast. If I simply use the yeast...is that going to work, or do you need to change the grain...
