When Your LHBS Makes You Want A Mill

I bought a Barley Crusher when I went all grain. Living way to far from anything resembling a real brew store it is cheaper in the long run. Plus buying bulk grain is way cheaper than smaller bags of crushed.

Is Fast Pitch canned wort coming back?

Modern lids should NOT be preheated! The sealing compound doesn't need it and the lid will sterilize during the boil.

Any affordable 1 1/2 gallon kegs out there?

No they are a throwaway... they will not stand up to years of use like a real keg. I buy quality to last, not junk.

SS Brewtech Chronical - Completely Clogged

Maybe use a kettle screen to filter some of the trub before the fermenter? And a hop spider or bag to contain the hop debris(this one seems to create most of the trub in my boil kettle, went to a spider, very little debris)...

Fermenters with spigot and NEIPA's Question

I rarely see more than an inch or so of trub and yeast in my fermenters with spigots. And I am all grain. Using hop bags or a hop spider helps a lot with this. The few times it has happened the spigot will create a divot in the trub bed then the rest of the trub stays put. I always draw off my...

Best practices for cleaning keg and tap

I add a gallon of BLC solution to the bottom of the keg I use for cleaning solution(it has a bad lid and won't seal tight, tried a diff lid same issue... it is way out of round) then I use an air compressor(has an oil/water filter on it) to pump that through the gas in post of the keg I am...

those who use buckets as fermenters

One of my fermenting buckets doesn't airtight seal. Microbes in the air can't climb UP under the lid to get in so no worries! To make life really simple I have a spigot on all of my fermenting buckets. The trub/yeast cake never reaches the height of the inlet so when bottling/kegging the only...

    Glass Carboy Excitement

I worked in a feed testing lab back in the early 80's, lots of glass vessels of all kinds. Our number one injury was broken acid carboys causing cuts and acid burns. We all wore acid resistant clothing and gloves but you would still get a nice hole eaten in your leg if a drop finds a way in. I...

    Cold Water Fly Sparging

Pass on hot tap water, mine smells like a swimming pool with all the chlorine! I tried a cold water sparge. Added to much time to the boil and I dropped to 1.050 from my normal 1.054 OG on a recipe I brew a LOT so it is almost an make it while asleep. So same procedure I always use, same grain...

    Tiny House Brewing

Storage shed! Just because your house is small you still need space for bikes, lawnmowers etc! Heck have a 20' cargo container dropped for extra storage! They can be picked up and moved as needed.

What came in the mail for you today?

Just household stuff... cat food, toilet paper, kleenex... Walmart online is as cheap as the store and it gets delivered to my front door so I don't have to carry it!

Starsan - Been there, done that!

Funny my thin Walmart plastic spray bottles have never leaked. I have star san in a gallon water jug sitting in the kitchen for filling spray bottle. Never leaked. White food grade bucket of star san for 2 years and never leaked... Water jugs are cheap disposable plastic. They damage EASY and...

Oblong / Racetrack / Oval style kettles ?

I have seen rectangular canning kettles but they are stainless and not usable on induction burners... 12.5 gallon

Is Fast Pitch canned wort coming back?

Instead of pressure canning I just freeze it. Thaw, boil, cool and use!
