    Boil to keg time.

If FG has been stable 3 days you can keg. I have never used orange peel so don't know if the longer it soaks the better it gets...

    "Stained" Corny Kegs?

Use BLC and fill them to the top and let it soak 24+ hours. The acid might remove it to nice shiny stainless... could use double strength BLC solution.

I forgot to purge my keg. is my beer ruined?

No kidding! Back in the early 80's nobody had even heard of low O2 brewing and sometimes a case of beer got set aside for a year if it was a special holiday beer!

I forgot to purge my keg. is my beer ruined?

I use bottling buckets to ferment in(6.5 gallon) and use a piece of tubing to fill my kegs, it reaches the bottom of the keg. Open lid, fill, put lid on, put under CO2 right away, purge in 2 hours and don't worry about it. If the keg is going to sit outside the fridge I will purge it in 24 hours...

Step 1 of the Keezer build. Still have all the Oak trim to complete

When closed the strut has to be mounted the length of the strut from the back wall(with a strut with a mount at the top, otherwise that is where the top of the strut should land and your mount is down in the keezer...). When closed that puts the top right at the collar top for the bracket for...

Hallelujah!! The day has finally come, goodbye bottles!

I only bottle now if I made a little extra and it won't fit in the keg. Or if I need a 6 pack to take to friends. Otherwise kegging has been a work saver. Takes 10minutes to clean a keg versus all the bottle washing, sanitizing, filling capping... a filling session for an 11 gallon batch could...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

I rarely get the same fedex driver twice. They hate this route and quit because it is very rural and you get into the boondocks sometimes... back where some families do make shine! My grocery shopping twice a month is a 60 mile round trip... yes I am tiny town middle of nowhere rural! I don't...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

Package yes, not a new keg. I was cleaning up and had the garage door open when he stopped to drop off some ham radio amplifier parts... one of my other hobbies that can make beer brewing look very cheap!

It's basically impossible to get drunk from sub 6% beers

1/4 barrel of Schlitz Malt Liquor and 6 people... we drank it in 3 hours and went to get another one! Back when I was in my early 20's and indestructible! Now I like good beer and I enjoy it. If I drink 6 it might be over a 6 hour period or more...

Eight year old beer still in carboy (pic)

Not many bugs can live in beer to make a human sick so go for it! Worst case is it tastes like crap...

Step 1 of the Keezer build. Still have all the Oak trim to complete

How long are the struts? What I do is temp mount(duct tape is your friend here!) them the closed distance from the hinge side minus an inch or so then extend the strut and open the lid. See if the geometry looks like it will push the lid open then mark the top where the top of the strut looks...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

Brewed 2 days ago... Fedex guy walks up to the garage(I had the overhead door open and was cleaning up) looks at the copper immersion chiller and flips out his phone and dials 911. Tells dispatch I am making moonshine and get a deputy out. Deputy was in town(one finally bought a house here so we...

What I did for beer today

Swore at the wind that interrupted my plans to brew, 28 degrees and a 30mph are NOT something I am going to brew in!

Deer waiting for spent grain dump

Cottontails here eat mine in winter, in summer it goes into the compost tea barrel(that is some STINKY stuff!). They make motion activated water sprayers for deer, works well to keep them out of the garden!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

And had to move brew day to Tuesday. I got up at 10:30(I am a night owl, got to bed at 4AM!) and it was 36, great, a warm day! By the time I had breakfast and 2 cokes(my version of morning "coffee") the temp had dropped to 28, I went out and setup to brew and it had dropped to 26... nope not...

Pitching 1 pack of Notty for 8 gal batch

If you have some DME or LME go ahead and make a starter and let it work 24 hours! I know they say don't do it with dry yeast but I have been doing it and it turns Notty into a super beast! I have had it ferment out 1.056 OG wort in 3 days after a starter versus 5-6days just rehydrated(or dumped...

    A419 + Chest Freezer Safety?

To stop rust make sure your freezer is up on some boards! Right on concrete seems to make them rust faster...

    Star San Safety

I know guys who have left a couple cups of StarSan in a fermenter and are still alive!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brew moved to Saturday... had to run to town for something today and with a 60 mile round trip that killed 2 hours.
