    Bees and honey

Read everything you can get your hands on, listen to the locals, get an epi-pen and choose the site of your apiary carefully. Most of the old timers around here are happy to share knowledge and even give hands on instruction, I bet you will find the same welcoming mindset out your way. They will...

    Drilling a brew kettle

Harbor freight step bit might drill one but be safe and buy two maybe three. I have never had luck with their drill bits, but at that price buy extras if you need them great if you don't return them.

0-300 PSI gauge- need help reading it

If you were looking for 100-120 psi this would work. The capillary tube in a gauge of this range would not be calibrated to give an accurate reading for 10-12 psi.

    Half Hive Mead

Being new to mead I figured the nutrients would not hurt, after all they certainly have their work cut out for them. Who knows I might be making bilge water that's unfit for consumption or it could be something good, time will tell and besides it is interesting to see what happens. Just over 72...

    Half Hive Mead

Fermentation is well under way through the translucent bucket I can see 3/4 inch layer of sediment already, I imagine that will be rather thick in no time. As suggested I added 3 tsp. of nutrient to help the little critters on there long voyage. Patience will be needed, but that's ok I have...

    Half Hive Mead

After this last harvest over Labor Day I was left with 15 lbs. of a comb, cappings, propolis, some brood, pollen, a few dead bees, random bits of honey and of course varroa mites all mixed together in a bucket. With every intention of just throwing this sticky mess in the trash I put it in a...

    Reusing beer bottles

This is my method, and it has yielded a bunch o' bottles. I got some strange looks but once I explained what I wanted them for they went gung-ho, and placed them in boxes on the tops of their dumpsters if I can get em' great if not no big deal. Needless to say, but I have a good variety of...

    Feeding yours bees wort

Every honey is unique and directly influenced by its source, with that in mind my theory goes like this. Spring feeding of a strong hive with a high gravity wort using an in-hive feeder. Providing the hive with fully drawn frames to encourage the ladies too store the wort versus feeding it to...
