whats the consensus on spider vs bag vs commando for hop additions?

Lot's of traffic on this thread. I had to switch to little bags from my hop spider once I began using the steam condenser lid on my svbs. Just unwilling to flush all the hop trub through the recirculation manifold. The bags are easier to clean up as they are disposable.

    Schlitz Dark

Yes, and we thought the dark beer was more like real beer.

New post a picture of your pint

Posted this the other day on what are you drinking. However the aesthetical characteristics of the pint warrant appreciation in this thread also. For some reason color, body, flavor, and head retention all came together in this brew.

What I did for beer today

Totally agree. I have generally quit buying bottle beer mostly because I like my HB better, but also have a good supply of bottles in use now. When I do buy bottle beer, I select for paper lables that soak off. Lots of good craft beer in cans these days, and they transport well in the RV when...

What I did for beer today

Yes, those plastic labels don't soak off very well and you have to apply a solvent like goo gone, or one of the organic hydrocarbons. I have found it easier to peel the labels in their entirety rather than scrape them off. Good luck

    Cycling help

Check to see if the bolts don't snugup to the wheels. The may have a role with wheel adjustments in the rear dropouts. Interesting looks like Hole in the tab is threaded too.

    Show Us Your Label

Thanks I will give it a try sometime. Especially for new additions. I am especially picky on buying beer in bottles nowadays and favor ones with labels that soak off clean.

    Show Us Your Label

I don't have bottle labels because I don't like peeling them off before bottling each time, but I do have a couple of coaster designs for use once the beers are in glasses and ready for consumption.

Help! Want more RED in my Irish Red Ale

Like to hear about your experience. Maybe I can use it in my Amber recipe

Help! Want more RED in my Irish Red Ale

I like Briess malts too and try to brew Wisconsinibly despite being in Tennessee. Have wanted to give their Crystal Red malt a try if I'm able to find a distributor. As others have observed your malt bill is pretty complicated. I would look to simplify it with fewer malts that get the job done.

    Why aren't Tripels more popular?

My last Tripel used BE-256 and turned out great. It was an extract based recipe. I'm still sitting on 30 bottles since 2022 as it goes down slowly by the fireside and I only have tolerance for 1 at a time. I have aspirations to try and repeat this with all grain some day but really need to...

    Spike mill in the wild

0.04 mill gap worked well for me on my inagraual brew, 1.063 ipa with Briess Heritage malt . Not much hull bits outside of the basket and 63-64% efficiency. Previously I was getting something like 57 to 59% with store milled grain. Good to be able to start off with predicted preboil gravity...
