    Cycling help

REI offers a nice selection of reasonable price bikes with modern features. Generally knowledgeable staff who can help get you fitted on a correct size bike and not treat you like total newb. Good luck. Ride lots.

    Pseudo Vs Traditional Lager

Application of the scientific method. However need to operationalize taste differences. Perhaps a sensory panel of blind evaluators?

Very frustrating 3rd and 4th brews! How to recover?

Similar struggle here. This last brew I paid attention to water volume and grain ratio to get good numbers for estimating efficiency @ 59%. Once I plugged that number into the brewers friend recipe builder all of my numbers lined up as predicted. I'm now able to change my grain crush and...

What I did for beer today

Experiments with Spike Steam Condensing Lid and SVBS brewing system. Able to reduce kettle volume by 1 gal/hr @ 80% of boil. That's using kettle marks @ 7 and 6 gallons respectively. 1st experiment @ 75% was somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 so repeat @ 80% to be right on mark. Going to need to...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

HBD went into the fermenter @ 1.054 and is off to the races this morning. Missed my pre-boil gravity by 5 point, and OG by 8. Volume at 5 gallons which is what I hoped for. Overall pleased with my effort as the process went well with no hiccups, and I kept my mash temp steady @ 153. So small...

    Adding Maltodextrin post fermentation

Th was my experience last(only) time I have used it. Planning on 4-5 grams in same Oz of water if I can get it in solution.

    Adding Maltodextrin post fermentation

Thanks. I identified the thread last night and thought I would throw the question out for comment. I had previously used MD to fix a run away fermentation but stirred it in dry. Thought I would put it in solution this time but could not find any guidance. Have consistently avoided corrective...

    Loving Marris Otter - Yum!!!

I have used Victory in my Amber ale. It has a nice contribution to malt sweetness. Previously used at too high percentage, but now @14% to allow more expression from the Munich.

    Loving Marris Otter - Yum!!!

Yes, I have also Chevalier on my list as a legacy malt as I am taken with trying to brew pre-prohibition styles once I get my production process dialed in.

Did Thomas Jefferson brew bad beer?

So something like a Monticello Common ale. Not necessarily a bad brew. I am surprised that he didn't grow Barley on the premises though.

    Loving Marris Otter - Yum!!!

I figured I am like the only brewer who has not used Maris Otter as a base malt yet. Have it on the list as I work my way through the other alternatives.
