    Tried my first mead

I have read lots on here about meads. But had never tried one. I just happened to drive by here and had to stop. I was not expecting to much after reading about commercial meads. The owner was more then happy to let me sample their product in early Dec. I brought a couple bottles home that day...

    Blueberry Brew

This has my attention. I was thinking along the same lines here in a stout with a high abv. Black Berries are in the freezer waiting on a recipe.

    Woodchuck fall cider

Sampled a bottle for New Years. It is carb'ing now. Nicely. The taste is still on the young alcohol side. Showing signs of apple flavor. But, has a ways to go to be truly enjoyable. Spice not coming throw at this point. Color is amber with a slight haze. If your looking for a buzz. This will do...

    Burner Preference, Help me decide.

I bought the SP-10 from Amazon. Tested yesterday on 5gal of water. Starting water temp was 45. Got up to boil 211 in 22 minutes. The thing is very loud. Looking forward to first brew. It has to be better then the electric stove in kitchen.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Double Chocolate Oatmeal Snout

ChshreCat, We talked about the black berry addition to your stout. If i wanted to boost the ABV would it make a favor difference using a cane or corn sugar to do this Vs using DME. I understand making this a bigger beer will require extra aging. nudist, i added vanilla to this recipy. When...

Am I the only one who dislikes IPAs?

I'm with you on the IPA's. I don't like hoppy beers. It's part of the reason my wife bought me a starter kit from the HBS. We had gone out to dinner at Sierra Nevada. The waiter just kept telling us the beers were HOPPY. I love cooking. So, she figured i could brew a beer that we would enjoy...

    Woodchuck fall cider

Opened a bottle this weekend. No sign of yeast. Which explains the no carbing in the bottle. Yeast has crapped out. I think it hit it's tolerance leave. Alcohol is not as strong. Pie spice is not coming throw yet. Priming sugar did add a nice sweetness to it that it did have before. Just a...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Double Chocolate Oatmeal Snout

A friend ask me a while back about doing that. He love the toasted coconut marshmallows. LOL Going to get my grains (hopefully) this week to get the blackberry chocolate oatmeal milk stout together.:ban:

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Double Chocolate Oatmeal Snout

I got #7.5 of blackberries yesterday. In the freezer now. To save until ready to brew, I'm going to vacuum seal them into #1 bags. Looking at the fruit beers, they average #3 to #5 in a 5gal batch. Do you think #5 will be enough to add a good berry flavor to the beer? Hmm, Chocolate Blackberry...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Double Chocolate Oatmeal Snout

The idea of adding blackberries. Just seems like an AWESOME dessert beer. ChshreCat, How long do you think it would take to age?

    Woodchuck fall cider

Bottled the cider on the 13th. Looking at the bottom of the bottle, No signs of yeast build up. I'm thinking that the yeast hit it's max and is dead. Will open a bottle soon and see what it's doing.

    Woodchuck fall cider

I figured that the rum would kill anything bad that maybe in the spices. I also thought the rum would extract more flavor from the spices. Reading around the boards. Rum and vodka seem to be used a lot. Being new to this i figured.... Ok, i'll give it a shot. The alcohol heat came from the very...

    Woodchuck fall cider

I'm thinking this may take some time to come into it's own. So, working on getting Champagne bottles together. I'm going to back sweeten and bottle. Then put away for aging. Torn between using apple concentrate or priming sugar for carbing. I would like to have a nice strong apple flavor when it...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Double Chocolate Oatmeal Snout

I had the close the the same readings. Og was 1.08 and the FG 1.04. Bottled 10 days ago. I can see the bubbles in the beer. It just doesn't feel like it in the mouth. I was hoping for sweetness. It's still a little to sweet. But, for a first brew. I'm pleased and learned ALOT.:mug:
