Not much interest in >10gal batches?

Nothing prevents it. However, try boiling water for a 5 gal batch in a 20 gal pot and you will immediately find the thermometer is probably way over the top of the liquid so you can't get temp readings. Then boil the wort and you will lose more to evaporation than with a properly sized pot and...

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

Will do. The immediate need was that I have a Pale Ale in the carboy that needs to be bottled this weekend, but most of my bottles are occupied. So for the time being, the corny is just going to go straight into this fridge. I probably won't get around to doing the kegerator conversion for...

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

I bought the Frigidaire tonight at Lowes. While their website has it on sale for $149, my local store wanted $179. Still a good deal.

Wow, am going to swing by Lowes tonight to check that out.

how would this work for a cream ale

One of my next brews will be a cream ale. I was thinking of following the Northern Brewer recipe of: MASH INGREDIENTS -- 7 lbs. Rahr 2-Row Pale -- 0.75 lbs. Gambrinus Honey Malt -- 0.25 lbs. Belgian Biscuit malt BOIL ADDITIONS & TIMES -- 1 oz Cluster (60 min) YEAST SAFALE US-05. or WYEAST...

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

Wait, they do have the 4.4 Whirlpool, which I believe is just a rebranded Danby. They also have a 4.6 Haier. Which would you guys recommend - the Haier or the Danby/Whirlpool? The Haier is $169, the Whirlpool $199. I'll spend the extra 30 bucks if it's better, otherwise I'll save some money...

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

That's awesome. That store is like 30 minutes from me. That specific model isn't showing on their website but I will definitely call them and swing by tomorrow. Thanks.

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

The Danby 4.4 seems to be a good start. Best Buy, Lowes, Wal Mart, etc. seem to all list it online but not carry it in store though.

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

I can live with 2 kegs. I don't want to deal with removing freezers, relocating thermostats and lights, bending gas lines, etc. What should I get?

    CO2 refills in Central NJ?

I have heard mixed things about this - some say the paintball shops add oil to the gas for lubing the guns. I don't want oil in my beer. Others say it's ok.

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

What is the best available mini fridge for both storing multiple (2-4) corny kegs and a CO2 tank and for converting to a kegerator? I've been searching relentlessly the past few days. It seems like the Sanyo 4912M was the hot ticket, but it's no longer produced and nearly impossible to find...

    CO2 refills in Central NJ?

I recently bought some kegging equipment and now need to get my bottle filled. I live in Burlington County Since it's a brand new bottle, I'd prefer getting it filled rather than exchanging. My LHBS recommends Kennedy Welding Supply in Trenton. Googling, I also found Camden Bar and...

Not much interest in >10gal batches?

If you don't mind my asking, how are you brewing 35 gallon batches? 2 - 55 gallon Boilermakers (for MT and BK) and a 42 gallon conical? I also imagine you're using something more than a turkey fryer banjo burner for heat?

    Why do 10 gallon batches?

I would like to step up to 10 gallons at some point in the future. However, my challenge is that I like to have more than one beer ready to drink along with more than one beer fermenting at a time. I have maybe 60 or so bottles saved up along with one corny keg, so that can be a challenge with...

    Brew Setup Upgrades HELP

Going from 5 gallon to 10 gallon batches is pretty straightforward. Going to 15-20 gallon batches is more complicated. Especially 20 gallon batches. You're looking at 24-26 gallons pre-boil. That would require a 30 gallon brew kettle, minimum. For the mash tun, forget about a 60 quart...

is this the right direction of a barley wine?

I haven't run the gravity point math, but I'm a little surprised to see an OG of 1.112 for a grain bill that's ~ 12.5 lbs total and only 10lbs base malt. Edit: Nevermind, I missed the 3 gallon part and assumed a 5 gal batch.

New AG'r - No Sparge Guidance pls

I can understand not wanting to deal with fly sparging, but no sparging at all? Batch sparging is little more than just dumping in more water and draining. Why not do it?

    Silicone tubing supply?

What do people think about the reinforced silicone tubing that Midwest and some others sell? It looks cool and indestructible, but at almost $8/ft vs $2/ft for regular silicone, it's pricey. Is it worth it?

My plan for an "All Grain System"

I recently ordered a Blichmann Boilermaker, and was really torn on the size. Up to this point, I have only brewed 5 gallon batches, but I wanted the flexibility to do 10 gallon batches in the future. I was leaning towards the 15 gallon pot for that flexibility. Ultimately, I decided on...

    Top Tier questions

Now I'm starting to lean away from the idea of a Top Tier. If I'm going to use a pump (and I agree it makes sense) may as well just get a cheap utility table, put the HLT (cooler) and MLT (cooler) on the table, kettle/burner and carboy on the ground, and pump hot water up from the kettle to the...
