    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

I have been following this thread for a while now...very cool. I have tried it both ways in the last month, both in the glass of water and directly into the soil...with disappointing results. They croaked. Last week I tried taking a few shoots from the lives plants, but cut them right back to...

Location x 3, where to move my hop garden to? Dividing and moving my murdered hops.

So for the last 2 weeks or so I have been tilling and prepping the area long the fence...turned out to be the best place to move them, plus gives me room for expansion....I have split up the plant (Hopzilla) into 15 plants and they are doing great. Bought another 16 rhizomes and planted them...

Found a new hop variety in my garden...HopZilla...jeeez, don't try this at home kids

So a quick bit a of research about bull shoots, and I found something else I had no idea about. Thanks Halifax. I checked em out and sure enough about half are bull shoots. As I just moved these, I don't want to shock them too much, so removed a few of the big shoots from each plant and left the...

Found a new hop variety in my garden...HopZilla...jeeez, don't try this at home kids

Well it's been a week now, managed to split up the massive plant into 15 separate plants, 12 are happy and growing well with sprouting leaves and 3 are just root sections I guessed may take off...but not yet. I think I may have 2 distinct plant varieties...will post in a separate thread. Most...

What beastie is chewing on my plants?

I find that Willie Nelson or ABBA CDs seem to be the most effective. :D Otherwise you can buy the shiney red/chrome reflective mylar tape at garden centers and that is what I am using and works great also. Have fun. Paul

What beastie is chewing on my plants?

I would second the bird opinion....every year I put out my pumpkin seedlings and within a day, most are bit off and left there. They look like worms. I have watched them attack the seedlings and just nip them off at the tip. Buggars. Good luck..maybe some bird netting until they get...

Need some quick help identifying rhizomes..transplanting today..pics provided

Thanks Halifax, I ended up with 15 separate plants, most of them had shoots coming out of the ground already, a few of them are just the roots that you see in the pics. We'll see what pops up in the next month or so. About 10 of them look healthy and have sprouted little leaves. Let's hope...

Found a new hop variety in my garden...HopZilla...jeeez, don't try this at home kids

Man, I tell ya, I'm ready for a hot tub..... It sure started out lookin' easy but when I got down to 2' and still haven't found the end of the root.....I think it started as 2 plants, and over the years intertwined underground and then grew together into this massive crown. I ended up with 15...

Found a new hop variety in my garden...HopZilla...jeeez, don't try this at home kids

Splitting up and moving my hops today, the ones I found by accident in my garden a few years back (see my first post about a new location). It's taken me 2 hours to get this buggar out of the ground..broke a shovel, a pitch fork and finally had to resort to a pry bar to get the last part of the...

Need some quick help identifying rhizomes..transplanting today..pics provided

Hi gang, I'm splitting up my hops and moving them today and do you think I can identify what the rhizomes are? :( This is HopZilla, been in the ground over 15 years and never been maintained. Are the rhizomes the pudgy little things on the root? Look forward to your quick replies. Cheers

Location x 3, where to move my hop garden to? Dividing and moving my murdered hops.

Thanks Halifaxhops, You have given me a few good ideas...mainly getting my rain barrels set up. I have about 6 or so, poly barrels from the local u-brew place, about 200L each and I need to get my gutters draining into them this year. I think I will start the transplant along the fence...

Location x 3, where to move my hop garden to? Dividing and moving my murdered hops.

Hello fellow growers, This is my first post here, having been bitten by the hop growing bug in the last year. I'll tell you my story then get to the point of the post. It all started 5 years ago, when I revived the garden area left by the previous home owner, a small 20' x 20' fenced area. It...
