YOUR Experience With Using Moldy Rhizomes?

Agreed. I was given a big root ball of Golding, got it home and split it into 6 plants and a few rhizomes and planted in pots temporarily. 2 weeks later finally got around to planting in the ground and a couple of the small root chunks had mold on them, I was over watering and the soil was very...

I spread around 20 yards of sandy soil yesterday with the Bobcat and tilled it in with the rotovator on the JD710. Ready for this years rhyzomes. I have a few...

2015 : Anyone have their hops growing yet?

Down to the dirt a few days ago (forced) and here is the result. Ya baby...let's go! All 30 plants survived and are sprouting little shoots. One of the new last year Chinooks has a huge root about 1.5" diameter. Amazing how fast these grow. Cheers

Come on spring...helping the hops along with the Bobcat

Well, I'm getting closer. We made a pilsner with only these hops and it turned out very nice. A bit grassy, no citrus or fruity. Still trying to figure it out but am getting closer. I'll keep you posted. Cheers

Come on spring...helping the hops along with the Bobcat

Hi guys, It's been warm and sunny for a week now and continuing on this week, with temps around 15C. Our valley is somewhat behind, and also gets much more snow so I decided to help the hops a little today. Fired up the Bobcat, removed about a foot of snow from the them and got out some old...

Location x 3, where to move my hop garden to? Dividing and moving my murdered hops.

Hi Mike, Well you are darn close...ham operator and worked for the railway..and live real close to an old rail line with old telegraph wire and such. Good pickin' :ban: The end poles aren't guyed but the ACSR goes down to the ground and is anchored to a fence post on one end, winch on the...

Location x 3, where to move my hop garden to? Dividing and moving my murdered hops.

I think I put the new ones about 4" deep, with the shoot(s) pointing up. I used 1-1-1 mushroom manure, about a liter per rhizome mixed in with the natural dirt. I rototilled the whole row before I started so everything was nice and loose. The ones that I split up and moved I put deeper as they...

Location x 3, where to move my hop garden to? Dividing and moving my murdered hops.

Well, I forgot to update you last fall when harvest came around, but here is how we did. My son (12) and I dug 5 holes by hand and planted 20' long cedar poles next to the fence, sunk 3' deep. Then ran a length of ACSR #4 wire (Aluminum Conductor Steel Re-enforced) polyethylene coated wire...

    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

That's great! All the shoots I put into water, just rotted into a mushy mess. I must be doing something wrong. After 2 weeks the water gets cloudy and the stocks just disintegrate. The last shoots I cut right back to the crown and they seem to be hanging in. I put them straight into the ground...
