12 Beers of Christmas 2020 Edition

Wow. Yeah, you just had to get a picture of THAT!

12 Beers of Christmas 2020 Edition

Question on the recipe for Juniper Rye Bock. I'm planning on doing a small test batch (which will double as a starter for the main batch because my WL Copenhagen Lager yeast packet is a bit on the old side). Anyway, the color is listed as "deep amber", but I'm not sure where that color is...

    Slooowwww fermentation

I don't really have a question. Just sharing the fact that, had I used the usual 2-3 days in a row with same gravity reading guideline, I'd have thought this mead was done fermenting a long time ago! Note each vertical line is a week. (Note I didn't put the Tilt in until the mead was around...

    coffee beers

For me the best result was from whole beans, medium roast, in the keg.

    Gluten Free New England IPA

Anyone find this Lallemand NE yeast slow to start? Pitched about 42 hours ago and ZERO action. Expiration 2/2021.

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

Cool. I usually do somewhere between the green and blue line: Start with a couple days at 20-25, then drop to serving pressure. (Keezer temp about 45F).

I'm pretty sure that was my original problem, too.

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

The chart doesn't say anything about time. Is the underlying assumption that it's "eventually"? So a couple weeks?

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

It is carbed a little bit. Given that, a bit of a drop in pressure if I turn off at the tank is normal, then (not necessarily indicative of a leak)?

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

Related question: If I fill keg to 38psi, then close off the tank, then come back an hour later and the gauge reads 20psi, does that indicate a leak (somewhere between regular and tank, obviously)? I was thinking it may just be the gas dissoving into the beer, but it was only an hour, and it's...

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

How's this for a coincidence?... Just set up a Nitro tap. Had my usual thursday night gang over and went to show it to them. Kaput. Tank empty after my first keg on nitro after just a day or two. So, clearly, a leak. At least I have fewer possible sources of the leak than the OP...

    Positive Pressure To Avoid Suckback

Yep, all standard corny kegs. I do 2.5 gal, 4 gal, and 5 gal batches.

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

I couldn't guess at what it might be, other than it's probably not anything you replaced. Are all your taps usually being used? I'm wondering if you can try out different combinations of equipment, one at a time. So set up one keg and see if it happens. If it doesn't, try another keg (with...

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

Do you have any equipment you can borrow from someone and swap out? It sounds as if it could be anything that you haven't replaced, even if purchased new. Also, does your CO2 source fill your tank or do they exchange? If the former maybe your tank is faulty.

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

Unlikely, but... You're positive the CO2 isn't just running out? How many kegs, and what size CO2 tank?

    Positive Pressure To Avoid Suckback

In regards to last 3 posts... It follows that I should simply apply more positive pressure before cold crashing then, right? I could see what happens when I open the keg after cold crashing if I do 20psi, for example. If CO2 escapes then I know there was positive pressure the whole time, and...

    Positive Pressure To Avoid Suckback

Regarding the headspace pressure question. I doubt this answers it, but it may be useful info nonetheless. I cold crash in my serving kegs. I pressurize to 10 psi (that is, the serving pressue on my keezer), put in freezer anywhere from 29 to 34 F for a day before adding gelatin. When I open...

Any tricks to ship clear, bottle primed beer to a competition?

Based on the looks of that beer, you're taking your life into your own hands. On a completely unrelated note... I'm picturing sending in a cream ale to a competition. That cream ale should be very clear. But if the time between the shipping/jostling and the judging isn't that long, that...
