    hello from a dabbler

I got 3/4 of the way through that before I realized I was reading it in a southern accent. Anyway, welcome!

12 Beers of Christmas 2019 Edition

Racked the Honey Ginger IPA onto the honey (and ginger) 27 days ago and it's still fermenting that damn honey. Seems like it will never end. SG was 1.015 after primary then ostensibly went up with the addition of the honey. It's back down to 1.016 now, so I hope that means the honey is almost...

    Counterflow Chillers

So as my post suggested I've never had an infection (about 120 brews). However, your post was gnawing at me so I PBW'd my counterflow chiller after all after today's brew. There were definitely some flakes flushed out as a result, and I'm doing a second cleaning now. Don't know if that would...

Yeah, Dogfish bottles are good. Labels even come off easy.

12 Beers of Christmas 2019 Edition

I'm not loving that success rate, but if you've still only had those green ones break that's more encouraging. They do seem thinner. Thanks. And regardless of what I go with I'll definitely bag each bottle in case of breaks.

    Counterflow Chillers

If I ever get an infection, I'll have learned my lesson and will definitely adopt a stricter cleaning regimen. :)

    Counterflow Chillers

My understanding of 'clean' is that there is no gunk--essentially, if it looks clean it is clean. That provides a good surface for sanitizing. You MAY need a cleaner of some kind to get it there, but in my experience, you usually do not. So, to clean my CFC I just run hot water through it...

12 Beers of Christmas 2019 Edition

Giving some thought to shipping. Looks like I could save a few dollars on each of the 11 packages by using a box specialized for shipping three 375ml beer bottles, by virtue of the fact that they are smaller than what I'd use otherwise (partly bc they don't require as much padding). 11 of such...

    Non-Alcoholic Beer Poll

I've been wanting to try but I'm not at all optimistic I can do it. So I always end up doing a regular beer I can be almost sure I'll be happy with. Maybe one day a magical yeast will be discovered. Hope so!

12 Beers of Christmas 2019 Edition

Just got the proof for the label done by an artist friend of mine (Honey Ginger IPA/West Coast group).

A question of color...and how it happened.

What about the mash? Anything different between the two? Or grind? This reminds me of a question that I thought of the other day that relates to this: If you get more sugars out of a mash (higher efficiency), does that necessarily mean it would be darker than an equivalent brew were you had...
