Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer German Chocolate Stout

I did this recipe back in August of 07 and have carefully guarded their use since. I still have about 15 12ozers and it is clearly the most highly commented upon brew I have ever done. Some love it, some don't but no-one says it isn't one of the most interesting brews ever tasted. I think it...

    No yeast smell to starter

This is the weirdest thing ever. I am not a pro but I am not a newbie either and I have never had this before. I did a starter with a White Labs Irish Ale on Thursday night hoping to brew a Stout tomorrow. It is a 2 liter starter with 1 cup of extra light DME and added the tube. This...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Thanks, that is just what I was thinking. Light is good and summer sunshine rules. I will let you know how things work out....

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Gonna Brew Sunday and try the extract recipe. I have some Carapils at a 7.5L or some Briess Dextrine at 1.5L. What would you reccomend between the two. Thanks

OK, now I'm a little stressed.

Consider brewing some non-hop beers. We were very nicely surprised when our Pictish Ale turned out really very drinkable. Heather blossoms provide an interesting flavor.

    What are you drinking now?

The German Chocolate Cake Stout and Himbeereweisenbier. These two are just coming into their own and getting better every day.

Replacing malt with sugar for diet beer?

But a single malt scotch also has only 104 calories per 1.5 oz serving. While I really enjoy my Guinness clones and all my other home brews, I love my Lagavulin/Laphraoig/Glen Morangie and McCallan.

    When to Rack from Primary

Cracked the lid on the bucket last night to take a sg reading. Found myself looking at about 1 1/2 of kreusen. Must be a leaky lid. I am NOT going to add any yeast :)

    When to Rack from Primary

Still no airlock activity 4 days after racking over fruit puree. Any suggestions folks. I am thinking of pitching some dry yeast like Munton's Gold or safale What do you think?

    When to Rack from Primary

36 hours after racking to the secondary with the puree, no airlock activity. Hmmm maybe I should have transferred at high kreusen... Any ideas?

    When to Rack from Primary

It is a real all the way Hefeweisen complete with wYeast Heffe yeast. I actually racked to the secondary over the fruit puree after 7 days. There was still a small kreusen head which I did not transfer to the secondary. Since last night I have not seen any overflow tube (a precaution)...

    When to Rack from Primary

Last Sunday I brewed a heffeweizen as a base for a raspberry wheat. I am planning to rack the primary wort/beer over a can (49 oz) of Oregon Raspberry Puree. I read different advice about when to rack. Some say rack before the primary fermentation is complete, others say rack after a few...

    Oregon Raspberry Wheat

ROFL no more like ROFLMFAO :rockin: :tank: :mug: Actually, I was just trying to get a better idea of what I should expect as a FG since everything depends on OG:FG computations ABV was just one of the variables. Unfortunately I am a detail freak and keep records of everything from...

    Oregon Raspberry Wheat

I need a suggestion for when to add a can of Oregon Raspberry Puree to the basic Heffe recipe I have here. As you can see, I am currently thinking of adding the Puree to the bottom of the secondary and racking the primary wort/beer (which has been in the primary for only a few days to a week)...

Stuck in a rut- need advice!

Hopless Heather tip ale (not a Froach clone which has hops) its about as outside the box as you can get and still call it a beer. Very different and wildflowery.

    Pitch the liquid?

1st time using a starter after 14 great brew sessions. I have a great starter going and am about 1 1/2 hours from pitching the yeasties. I made a 2 cup water to 1/2 cup DME mix and added 1 tube of British Yeast from White Labs a couple of days ago. I have about a 1/4 layer of yeast at the...

    Primary Issue?

Nope, Just the center section of a 3 pc airlock. That piece gives an airtight fit for both the 1/2 ID plastic tube leading to the bucket and the grommet in the lid.
