    IPA Dark/Black-ening Up in Secondary

Yes I added LME at start of boil. Thanks for tips. I'll pull a sample today and check its color in a glass. Does it matter when in process you add extra fermentables like sugar or honey given it almost entirely ferments out without adding flavor? Maybe adding those at start of boil made it...

    IPA Dark/Black-ening Up in Secondary

K, a tad bit nervous. My IPA was in primary for 2 weeks, racked it to secondary a week ago today, and now it's damn near black. Very dark, still an amber glow of sorts "behind the black" color but it looks nothing like it did a week ago, and most importantly nothin like an IPA. The sample I...

    Temp Control

So I'm 5 batches deep in my young homebrew career. I'm doing everything stove top, including full 6+ gallon boils for my LME batches (7 gallon kettle, yup I wait for that ***ch to get boiling) and all grain 3 gallon batches. I'm in a high rise apartment complex so space is at a premium and I'm...

    Stout Question

Haha - I assumed GF was read as Gluten Free in a forum dedicated for that, but for the record it's for my GF GF ;) Great tips and thank for the recipe - I hadn't thought of cooking the honey or sugar to ramp up the dark color. What size batch is this recipe for?

    Stout Question

Any suggestions on what to add to a GF recipe that will give it that ink black color of a stout? I'm trying to work up a GF Stout recipe - I plan on toasting my own oats and some buckwheat, also using some buckwheat honey.... I am missing an element in that list of fermentables though...

    Odd question - unbottling/debottling

You could blend the syrupy batch with an IPA each time you drink it. I found DogFish's Festina Peach undrinkable but when poured 50/50 with a 90 minute it was very nice - much like the aprihop.

    Bottling

I've found bottling to be way less daunting than its made out to be. The guys at the home brew shop assume I'm bottling my first batch every time I pick up priming sugar and more caps because "once you've bottled once you'll go straight to kegging" - I don't buy that at all, i find it fun every...

    Honey & Sugar Question

Assuming by a% you mean spike in ABV? Per beer calculus the sugar jumped my estimated ABV by 1.3% and the honey boosted it .7% Good to know on the honey boiling out most the flavor. Next time I'll try it in fermenter. I went for a little twist on an otherwise standard IPA recipe - I like my...

    Honey & Sugar Question

Hey all, First off the obligatory THANK YOU for all the awesome advice in these forums - I'm a 6+ months lurcher of these forums, 3 (technically 4) batches of my own brew deep, and first time poster. You all rock. My question: brewed up my 3rd batch today, an extract batch IPA with 1.5 pounds...
