    Cheap and Easy Hop Storage

Since everyone is chiming in, figured I would too. I'm partial to this method because the food saver bags don't play nice with the whole (as in, non-pellet hops) because they crush them. With the Ball jars, they don't get crushed but still remain in the vacuum environment. But after reading all...

    CAD-Returning the Favor

I use SW on a daily basis and I can confidently say that they will be much more prominent in the future. They have nice big contracts with Universities where the students are taught SW instead of anything else. I thought maybe it was only my university (University of Texas) but apparently it's a...

    Two Day Brew Process?

I have no problems with this and I'm in texas. I've done it more than once with nightime temps well into the upper 70s lower 80s. I just leave the lid on. Any bugs (bacterial (not real ones ( that's what the lid is for))) that squeezed through at night are killed by the boil the next morning. My...

    Making a wheat beer

If you're really determined but don't want to sink money into a mill, you could use a rolling pin. But I'd definitely mix the unmalted grain with malted grain. There are enzymes that develop when you malt that are necessary for making beer. Without it, you'll make something... it may even taste...

Just tried Blue Moon for the first and last time.

I don't know why people often confuse smaller macro breweries with craft breweries... sorry bud but blue moon may not be as big as BMC but it is certainly not craft beer.

I want to start brewing beer

Right, that is why I mentioned the 10L and 20L example... I figured, for a beginner who just wants to make beer that tastes like well... beer, that a basic summary would work. Nice and thorough explanation though.

Most lhbs don't have 1g kits. Thats a NB thing. But good luck!

I want to start brewing beer

Right. Exactly. But if you feel that way about it you may wonder why beer isn't made with just sugar water and yeast? The reason is because when you steep grains you get more than just fermentable sugar; you get unfermentable sugars, tannins, and other delicious things that make beer beer...

I want to start brewing beer

This is the correct assumption. What I meant was with the adding was... lets say you walk into your lhbs and they only have crystal 20 in stock. But you really want to brew a recipe that calls for 1lbs of crystal 10 and 1 lbs of crystal 2. You could get 2 lbs of crystal 20 and it would likely...

I want to start brewing beer

I mean for simplicity's sake, yes. In a pinch you could just use 10 or just use 20 (add the weights) for example. But I would not just use 40 or something like that because that could have a noticeable impact. And no problem! Thats the point of forums!

I want to start brewing beer

Expect about 20-30 dollars for extract and 3-5 dollars for hops and 6-7 dollars per yeast pack. (Before taxes). But keep in mind that the yeast is recyclable. Often for 5-8 batches if treated well... though you'll likely want to experiment with other yeasts.

I want to start brewing beer

Almost all normal malt (crystal = malt) is just a means of providing sugar for the yeast which will get transformed into generic beer. The flavor profiles and perceived sweetness may be different but overall they don't have huge impacts. Noticeable for sure, but not huge. However, the other...

Good assumption, but they actually come in powder form as well. ^^

I want to start brewing beer

Thats probably a safe bet. But don't fool yourself into thinking it's cheaper. It actually tends to be more expensive than grain. But it's pretty easy to grasp. The premise is that you go gather your extract. Bring 5 gallons to a boil in a huge pot and add in the extract. Then you throw in...

I want to start brewing beer

Yes it will! Though, how you pour your beer has a pretty huge impact on the amount of foam or 'head'.

Yes. I think that would be a fair analogy. :)
